Anti-Zionism Isn’t Anti-Semitism

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

One has nothing to do with the other. The long ago discredited canard still surfaces to discredit Zionist critics – yesterday in Paris by right-wing French President Emmanuel Macron.

Netanyahu was with him for the 75th anniversary of mass-deportations of Jews by Vichy regime Nazi collaborators in 1942.

Condemning holocaust deniers, Macron disgracefully called Zionist criticism “a new type of anti-Semitism.” He’s not alone spreading the Big Lie.

Zionism is tyranny by a another name. It’s extremist, undemocratic and hateful.

It shamefully claims Jewish supremacy, specialness, and uniqueness. The notion of God’s “chosen people” demeans people of other faiths.

It harms Jews and non-Jews alike. It espouses violence, not peaceful coexistence. It favors confrontation over diplomacy.

It advocates strength through militarism, intimidation and naked aggression. It’s repugnant, indefensible, and destructive.

It’s contemptuous of fundamental legal, moral and ethical principles. It’s a monster threatening anyone and anything it opposes.

It’s corrosive and racist – a cancer infesting Israeli society and elsewhere. It’s a force for pure evil, not good.

Former Israeli scholar, critic, human rights activist, Israel Shahak (1933 – 2001), explained the dangers of Jewish chauvinism, religious fanaticism, and its influence on US polity.

He called the notion of self-hating Jews “nonsensical,” explaining the convoluted way Israel defines Jewishness, saying:

“(I)f either their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (or) great-great-grandmother were Jewesses by religion; or if the person (converted) to Judaism in a way satisfactory to the Israeli authorities, and on condition that the person has not converted from Judaism to another religion.”

According to the Talmud and post-Talmudic rabbinic law, “conversion (must be) performed by authorized rabbis in a proper manner.” For females, it entails an outlandish ritual – “their inspection by three rabbis while naked in a ‘bath of purification.’ “

If this is what Judism is about, who needs it. In Israel, Jews and non-Jews are unequals in the eyes of the state, Muslims especially demeaned, Palestinians viciously persecuted.

In his book “Overcoming Zionism,” Joel Kovel explained how it fosters “imperialist expansion and militarism (with) signs of the fascist malignancy.”

It turned Israel “into a machine for the manufacture of human rights abuses” -terrorists posing as democrats running things.

Humanity would be far safer and freer if Anglo-Zionism didn’t exist – a hugely destructive force threatening everyone.
