WaPo’s Jihadist-Supporting Reporter

WaPo’s Jihadist-Supporting Reporter

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

It’s shouldn’t surprise. CIA house organ WaPo militantly supports US aggression, its use of ISIS and other terrorists as imperial foot soldiers, opposing all sovereign independent nations, wanting them transformed into pro-Western puppet states.

Liz Sly is WaPo’s Beirut bureau chief, a propagandist masquerading as a journalist, opposing peace and stability, supporting jihadists and local journalists reporting on them, backing their extremist ideology.

RT outed her, saying “(o)n January 11, she “retweeted a video featuring a man with a microphone cowering in front a camera in the middle of an airstrike, purportedly shot near the northern Syrian city of Idlib, a current focal point of fighting between the opposition and government forces.”

According to Sly, “(t)his Syrian journalist, standing in an open field while bombs explode all around him, is very lucky to be alive. No flak jacket or helmet. You can barely hear him above the explosions. He and his colleagues are very brave.”

She referred to Tahir al-Umar with jihadist-supporting Free Syrian TV. He’s a jihadist cheerleader, openly praising their “sacrifices,” calling them noble jihadists.

RT accused him of “gloating over the enemy losses inflicted by Islamic State and other radical groups” – Sly glorifying what demands condemnation, cutthroat killers, not noble soldiers.

Omar’s commentaries are bloodcurdling – remarks like “Shia militias have been turned into mincemeat on the Syrian-Iraqi border. Five Islamic State bomb trucks exploded, 60 dead and dozens wounded,” adding:

“We beg Allah to unite the ranks of the mujahideen and the other fighters!”

In 2016, Omar was embedded with jihadist Abdullah al-Muhaysini, a known terrorist.

Asked about her remarks, Sly was unapologetic, telling RT she was only commenting on Omar’s “bravery,” in her judgment, unrelated to his support for jihadist killers, committing gruesome atrocities.

She and WaPo are on the wrong side of America’s imperial agenda, its wars of aggression, its human rights abuses – instead of denouncing unacceptable lawlessness, responsible for mass slaughter, vast destruction and appalling human misery in multiple theaters.

Not a concern at WaPo or with Sly, supporting Washington’s rage for dominance, its aim to eliminate all sovereign independent governments, its contempt for peace, equity and justice.

A Final Comment

In her latest propaganda report, Sly and a co-writer called the attack by 13 drones on Russia’s Syrian bases a “mystery.”

She wrongfully claimed drones Russia shot down and disabled “looked like a homemade model aircraft that did not seem particularly sophisticated.”

She cited Russophobic Atlantic Council member Aaron Stein, saying the drones in question “resembled an oversize toy aircraft and appeared to have been cheaply assembled from a type of plywood…”

Her report was willful disinformation. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, “(t)he fact that extremists use combat drones indicates that the militants have obtained (advanced) technologies, enabling them to stage terrorist attacks with the use of such aircraft in any country” – obtained from foreign sources, adding:

Advanced training in “one of the developed countries” is necessary to operate the drones, using “exact coordinates from space surveillance data,” pinpointing sites to attack.

While it was ongoing, a US Navy Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft flew in airspace between Khmeimim and Tartus bases.

It wasn’t coincidental, clearly involved in what happened, a Pentagon-launched attack on Russia’s bases, an act of war, its Defense Ministry saying:

“This forces us to take a fresh look at the strange coincidence that, during the attack of UAV terrorists on Russian military facilities in Syria, the US Navy reconnaissance aircraft Poseidon was on patrol over the Mediterranean Sea for more than 4 hours at an altitude of 7 thousand meters, between Tartus and Khmeimim.”

It was the first time terrorists used technology this sophisticated – “only (obtainable) from a country possessing state-of-the-art technologies,” Russia’s Defense Ministry explained.

Sly willfully misreported about what happened. Her columns lack credibility.
