Amnesty International: Imperial Tool

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

AI fronts for power, concerned more about serving its funding sources and publicity than human rights.

It’s reports on Syria are notably deplorable, a March 15 press release like earlier ones, turning truth on its head saying:

“The international community’s catastrophic failure to take concrete action to protect the people of Syria has allowed parties to the conflict, most notably the Syrian government, to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity with complete impunity, often with assistance of outside powers, particularly Russia,” adding:

“Every year we think it is just not possible for parties to the conflict to inflict more suffering on civilians, and yet, every year, they prove us wrong.”

Fact: Washington, its imperial partners, and terrorist foot soldiers bear full responsibility for years of US-orchestrated aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic – what AI refuses to acknowledge in its latest press release and earlier ones.

Fact: There’s nothing “civil” about naked aggression. Syria was invaded, government and allied forces, including Russia, combating the scourge of US-supported terrorism, a righteous campaign to eliminate it, aiming to restore peace and stability to the country.

Fact: The Obama and Trump administrations, its imperial partners, and terrorist foot soldiers are guilty of high crimes or war and against humanity – not Syria and its allies defending the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and people.

AI: “(I)n Eastern Ghouta 400,000 men, women and children, who have been living under an unlawful government siege for six years, are being starved and indiscriminately bombed by the Syrian government with the backing of Russia.”

“More than 600 civilians have been killed in the past two months alone. The international community had said ‘never again’ after the government devastated Eastern Aleppo with similar unlawful tactics.”

“But here we are again. Armed opposition groups have retaliated by indiscriminately shelling two villages in Idlib, which they have also besieged since 2014.”

“In Afrin, hundreds of Syrian Kurds have been forced to flee attacks by the Turkish government and armed opposition groups bent on capturing the town.”

Fact: The Western-promoted “400,000” figure was greatly exaggerated for propaganda purposes.

East Ghouta today is around 90% liberated, a small isolated pocket of US-supported terrorists alone holding out.

Others capitulated, agreeing to abandon their heavy weapons and be relocated elsewhere in the country.

According to the Russian reconciliation center for Syria on Friday, 103,606 civilians were safely evacuated from East Ghouta, likely no more than 10-or-20,000 more still held hostage as human shield.

Total liberation of the enclave is likely in days, a few weeks at most, a heroic mission deserving high praise, eliminating the last major terrorist stronghold in the country – other than illegally occupied US and Turkish occupied territory, their forces continuing aggression.

AI disgracefully called cutthroat killer terrorists “armed opposition groups,” ignoring their US support, their gruesome atrocities, including repeated CW attacks, falsely blamed on Syrian forces.

While admitting Turkish attacks on Syrian Kurds, AI is silent about US-led coalition terror-bombing, its rape of Raqqa, its illegal occupation, its support for ISIS and other terrorists.

AI: “UN Security Council resolutions have been repeatedly flouted and ignored by the Syrian government and other parties to the conflict. This must end now.”

“The Security Council must enforce its resolutions which call for an end to unlawful sieges and attacks.”

“It must also send a strong message that those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity will be held accountable, by referring the situation to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC).”

Fact: Washington, its imperial partners, and terrorist foot soldiers bear full responsibility for breaching Security Council resolutions – not Syria, Russia and their allies.

The ICC is a notorious imperial tool, ignoring US-led NATO and Israeli high crimes, prosecuting their victims instead.

The court consistently breaches its mandate, calling for “end(ing) impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern” – prosecuting individuals responsible for crimes of war, against humanity and genocide.

It ignores what its Rome Statute founding treaty calls for, failing to maintain impartiality in carrying out its duties – a sham tribunal, not a legitimate one.

AI: “Since 18 February, the Syrian government and Russia have escalated their bombing campaign on Eastern Ghouta, targeting civilians as well as civilian infrastructure including hospitals and schools.”

The above statement is a bald-faced lie. AI’s press release included a litany of other disinformation about the conflict.

The organization disgraced itself, allying with US-led coalition aggression against a just cause defense of the nation by Syrian and allied forces – aiming to liberate the country from the scourge of US-supported terrorists, along with ending illegal US and Turkish occupation of Syrian territory.

AI is an imperial tool, on the wrong side of the Syrian and other US-initiated wars – supporting aggression, blaming its victims.
