Stalemate in Geneva
by Stephen Lendman
Peace talks begun Monday are going nowhere – conflict resolution unattainable.
Saudi cobbled together terrorist groups represent the so-called opposition – making unacceptable demands, wanting Syrian sovereignty replaced by tyranny.
Syrian Arab Republic UN envoy/chief negotiator Bashar al Jaafari said his delegation doesn’t know “who (represents) the other side in dialogue.”
Important questions remain unanswered. His team represents the views and welfare of “all Syrians.”
He rejects direct talks with elements wanting Syria destroyed, its sovereignty and territorial integrity irreparably compromised.
“(I)rresponsible statements (made) by the so-called delegation of the Saudi group” are unacceptable, he said. Jaysh al-Islam leadership member Mohammad Alloush is chief negotiator.
The organization is ideologically extremist, comprised of former ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist group fighters – supported by Washington, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Israel, noted for committing appalling atrocities.
It represents a major threat to Syria’s survival as a sovereign state. Jafaari justifiably refuses to negotiate with Alloush, calling him a “terrorist” responsible for bombing embassies and killing civilians.
Proximity talks with pro-Western Syria envoy Steffan de Mistura shuttling between both sides are scheduled to continue for 10 days.
Jaafari’s refusal to negotiate face-to-face with terrorists suggests stalemate when they conclude, accomplishing little or nothing.
Endless war continues with no prospect for resolution in sight. Washington and its rogue allies reject peace.
