No Respite in Obama’s War on Syria

No Respite in Obama’s War on Syria
by Stephen Lendman
Washington seeks a military solution while pretending it wants things resolved diplomatically.
Endless conflict for five-and-a-half years proves its real intentions. So does obstructing Russia’s continued efforts for restoring peace and stability to war-torn Syria.
On Tuesday, State Department spokesman admiral John Kirby downplayed ongoing Turkish aggression for the past week in northern Syria, saying “over the last 12 to 18 hours…there has been calm.”
White House press secretary Josh Earnest repeated the same distortion, saying “(t)he United States welcomes the overnight calm between the Turkish military and other counter-ISIL forces in Syria.”
Turkish military sources denied any truce or ceasefire agreement, citing a temporary “pause” in fighting ahead of resuming it shortly.
Ankara reserves the right to conduct cross-border operations as it pleases. Claiming it’s to secure its borders and combat ISIS is cover for waging war on Syrian Kurds and occupying northern Syrian territory, wanting it annexed along with northern Iraq for a new Ottoman empire – wannabe sultan Erdogan’s grand plan.
Despite what he and Putin discussed in St. Petersburg weeks earlier, Turkey’s border with Syria remains porous. Terrorist fighters move freely through it.
On August 31, Fars News reported “(f)our buses carrying over 200 militants of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) entered Syrian territories via the (Turkish) border town of Qarqamish” on Wednesday alone.
Thousands of terrorists crossed from Turkey into Syria as part of Washington’s orchestrated battle for Aleppo.
Citing the al-Hadath web site, Fars News said “(i)n addition to the dispatch of a large number of tanks, armored vehicles and their crew by Turkish army, over 3,000 ready-to-combat fighters have been dispatched to Northern Aleppo to join the Turkey-linked terrorist groups’ operation in Jarabulus.”
“The terrorist groups have raised Turkish flag on their base at Turkey’s border crossing and are using the base to collect and forward tens of vehicles and fresh forces to Jarabulus region.”
Turkey’s chief of general staff Hulusi Akar said “(b)y pursuing the Euphrates Shield operation (in northern Syria), which is crucial for our national security and for our neighbors’ security, the Turkish Armed Forces are showing they have lost none of their strength” following the disruptive events of July 15.
Turkey, complicit with Washington and their rogue partners, continue waging naked aggression on Syria.
Expect greater US intervention after Hillary succeeds Obama in January, election rigging likely assuring it if needed.
There’s nothing free, fair and open about America’s process, powerful interests assuring no change in dirty business as usual.
How will Russia respond if Washington ups the stakes in Syria? Will it continue challenging US imperial interests or give up on its longtime ally? Much rides ahead on how events play out.
