US Undermining Ceasefire in Aleppo
by Stephen Lendman
Make no mistake. Good faith Russian/Syrian efforts to halt fighting in Aleppo failed because Washington wants endless war, not resolution.
It wants Syria’s legitimate government led by democratically elected/overwhelmingly popular Bashar al-Assad toppled – replaced by a puppet regime it controls.
This is what imperialism is all about – the rape and destruction of nation states to control them, their resources and populations. America is the greatest threat to world peace – especially if war goddess Hillary succeeds Obama.
Begun earlier in the week, Russia and Syria extended their ceasefire through Friday – so civilians and militants could leave eastern Aleppo through safe passage humanitarian corridors established for them.
It’s not working. US-supported terrorists keep shelling western Aleppo residential areas – killing and wounding defenseless men, women and children. They’re preventing people from leaving eastern parts of the city. Trying risks death or serious injury.
Media scoundrels ignored the severe pain and suffering of one mutilated child asking: “Will my foot grow back?” Reem, aged 13 lost her leg walking home from school – victimized by imperial ruthlessness.
Without proper pain-killing medications, she explained “(i)t feels like my leg being sawn apart…I have no words to describe the pain,” her mother added.
Another child, aged six, lies in a coma with shrapnel in his head – perhaps never to awaken and recover. Damage inflicted appears too severe to correct.
What did he, Reem, and countless other physically and emotionally scared Syrian children do to deserve endless daily horrors?
Syria is Obama’s war, urged and orchestrated by Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. Her likely ascension to power next year virtually assures greater war on humanity than already, including possible unthinkable nuclear war on Russia.
Disturbing events, including unrelenting anti-Russia propaganda, are propelling things toward what increasingly looks inevitable – a shocking reality few Americans understand, mindless and indifferent to what affects their lives, welfare and survival.
On Thursday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said terrorists are preventing people from leaving eastern Aleppo.
By phone, Sergey Lavrov told John Kerry that “not only civilians but also participants of illegal armed units have been given the chance to leave the city without hindrance, but militants are disrupting the cessation of fire and hindering evacuation of the population.”
In less than so many words, he blamed Washington’s failure to comply with ceasefire terms agreed on in Geneva last month for continued raging conflict, including fighting in Aleppo, US-supported terrorists rejecting ceasefire.
On Thursday, Syria’s General Command said Turkish warplanes terror-bombed northern Aleppo, massacring over 150 civilians, injuring many others.
Calling the action “flagrant aggression,” Ankara was warned that “(a)ny attempt to once again breach Syrian airspace…will be dealt with, and (its warplanes) will be brought down by all means available.”
Separately, an EU statement, following a meeting of its foreign ministers in Brussels. said it’s “considering all options, including further restrictive measures targeting individuals and entities supporting” Assad if hostilities continue – especially blaming Russia for US high crimes, complicit European partners sharing guilt.
Russian and Syrian good faith efforts to achieve cessation of hostilities and conflict resolution fail because Washington, its rogue partners and terrorist foot soldiers reject them.
Endless war continues. Syrian deaths and injuries mount. Media scoundrels ignore one of history’s great crimes – failing to explain US responsibility for naked aggression against a sovereign independent state threatening no one.
