NYT Fake News About Cornerstone of Peace at Risk
by Stephen Lendman
Falsely accusing Russia of violating the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) is part of longstanding Times misinformation.
No violations occurred. Obama administration claims otherwise were false. So was Joint Chiefs vice chairman General Paul Selva in March House Armed Services Committee testimony.
: “(T)here is no doubt that (Putin is) stok(ing) fears in the…NATO” alliance – falsely accusing him of INF violations.
“(I)ncreased pressure (should be applied on) Russia to find some kind of diplomatic solution to the missile treaty dispute.”
“…Russia (is falsely) accused of interfering in the American election and (Trump) has been an apologist for (Putin) – “while the Pentagon and the intelligence community are ringing alarm bells about the Russian threat.”
“How (Trump) handles the (nonexistent) treaty violation will say a lot about whether he is prepared to confront (Putin’s) malign meddling.”
The Times report is pure rubbish. Russia categorically denies accusations of INF Treaty violations.
It required eliminating all nuclear and conventional missiles with ranges of 310 – 620 miles (short-range) and 620 – 3,420 miles (intermediate range), along with their launchers.
Compliance is monitored by technical means, on site inspections and cooperative measures. The historic agreement was the first bilateral treaty designed to reduce nuclear arms. Previous ones only established ceilings.
In response to weeks earlier State Department false accusations of Russian INF violations, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said his country “has been and remains committed to its international commitments, including to the treaty in question.”
Falsely accusing Russia of INF violations, “aggression,” US election hacking, and all sorts of other contrived allegations is part of propaganda war on the country – featuring deception, fake news and Big Lies.
Intense bashing threatens world peace, stability and security. Russia is the preeminent world power striving to maintain them – America’s imperial war machine humanity’s greatest threat.
Irresponsible Russia bashing by The Times and other media scoundrels increases the possibility of confrontation between the world’s dominant nuclear powers.
US-stoked tensions need cooling, not hotting up more than already.
