Neocon John McCain Gets Feature NYT Op-Ed Space to Lie
by Stephen Lendman
McCain disgraces the office he holds, an unabashed supporter of US naked aggression, an unindicted war criminal, a staunch opponent of human and civil rights.
His op-ed lied, feigning support for what he disdains, saying he endorses “justice, morality and conscience.”
His public record belies his rhetoric. He deplores peace, stability and governance serving all Americans equitably.
In April 2007, he notoriously urged bombing Iran, a nation threatening no one, for emphasis, saying “(b)omb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.”
Challenged by anti-war activists during a January 2015 televised Senate hearing, he blustered “(s)hut up or I’ll have you arrested…low-life scum.”
Addressing US imperial wars, he once said “(o)nly the most deluded of us could doubt (their) necessity.”
Following Iraq’s rape and mass slaughter, he said “(i)f we withdraw, there will be chaos. There will be genocide,” ignoring US responsibility for destroying the cradle of civilization and lives of millions of its people based on Big Lies.
He outrageously accused Iran of wanting nuclear weapons, saying they’ll be handed to terrorists.
He wants Medicare, Medicaid and other vital social services abolished – so US resources can be used exclusively for warmaking and corporate handouts.
He believes only America’s privileged class should be afforded human and civil rights, favoring police state harshness against nonbelievers.
Ludicrously he called America “a country with a conscience…believ(ing) moral concerns must be an essential part of our foreign policy…”
Its longstanding deplorable record speaks for itself, from the nation’s inception to now. Claiming “(m)ore of humanity than ever before lives in freedom and out of poverty” because of US policies turns truth on its head.
Saying “exceptional” America “made (the world) better” belies unspeakable horrors wherever its forces show up.
McCain as spokesman for human rights and moral values is like a serial killer championing gun control.
