Bernie Sanders Advocates What His Voting Record Rejects
by Stephen Lendman
He’s America’s most popular con man, an unapologetic scoundrel, saying one thing, doing another throughout his public life – his rhetoric empty, his soul for sale at the right price, a dirty politician like the vast majority of others in Washington.
To their discredit, NYT editors gave him feature feature op-ed space
He whined about Democrats “los(ing) the presidency to possibly the least popular candidate in American history” – because of Hillary, he failed to explain, as widely reviled as Trump, the deplorable candidate he endorsed.
Republicans control both houses, most governor’s offices and state legislatures. Sanders calls the situation “a clear manifestation of a failed political strategy” – without explaining duopoly governance runs America, both parties two sides of the same coin, not a dime’s worth of difference between them on issues mattering most.
“For the sake of our country and the world, the (undemocratic) Democratic Party, in a very fundamental way, must change direction,” he blustered.
How when both parties support endless imperial wars, corporate favoritism and police state harshness – alike on all major issues, differing marginally on most others.
Sanders: Democrats have “to open its doors wide to working people and young people. It must become less dependent on wealthy contributors, and it must make clear to the working families of this country that, in these difficult times, it is prepared to stand up and fight for their rights. Without hesitation, it must take on the powerful corporate interests that dominate the economic and political life of the country.”
Fact: He supports deplorable undemocratic Democrat party policies, voting 98% of the time with other party members.
Fact: He’s notably in lockstep with its imperial war agenda, its one-sided support for Israel, and the Wall Street-owned Federal Reserve, while pretending to be independent, socialist and progressive – in name only.
Fact: Support for Hillary showed what he really favors – all of the above plus monied interests over popular ones, war-profiteering, neoliberal harshness, regressive trade deals, eliminating fundamental freedoms, along with shameless Russia and Iran bashing.
Fact: He supports America’s dark side over responsible revolutionary change. He’s always been a loyal servant of powerful interests running America – pretending otherwise throughout his public life.
Sanders: “The Democrats must develop an agenda that speaks to the pain of tens of millions of families who are working longer hours for lower wages and to the young people who, unless we turn the economy around, will have a lower standard of living than their parents.”
Fact: How can they with elements like Sanders being part of the problem, not the responsible solution?
Sanders: “A vast majority of Americans understand that our current economic model is a dismal failure.”
Fact: It’s because the “vast majority” of bipartisan House and Senate members support policies responsible for today’s disastrous governance, including Sanders – an agenda benefitting corporate predators, helping super-rich Americans get richer, forcing neoliberal austerity on most others.
Sanders: “The (Democrat) party’s main thrust must be to make politics relevant to those who have given up on democracy and bring millions of new voters into the political process.”
Fact: America is a plutocracy, not a democracy, serving rich and powerful interests exclusively at the expense of most others – duopoly governance too debauched to fix.
The only solution is grassroots nonviolent revolution. Voting is a waste of time. Same old, same old always wins, popular interests ignored.
Each election cycle, things change but stay the same. Sanders is part of the problem, not the solution – a hollow deplorable con man, not a man of the people as he pretends.
