NYT Editors Claim America Retreating Under Trump
by Stephen Lendman
The Times is a notorious mouthpeace for America’s deep state, featuring disinformation, Big Lies and fake news.
It’s part of a campaign to undermine Trump, a scheme to oust him from office for the wrong reasons.
Its latest broadside accused him of “transform(ing) America’s global image from a proud and valued leader to something more nearly resembling a whiny bully…promis(ing) the country would never again be bound by agreements and conventions…compromis(ing) its sovereignty,” adding:
His “policies and pronouncements…made the United States, and his presidency, the object of disbelief, alarm, even derision.”
Fact: Trump largely differs from his predecessors in style, not substance, along with being the first business executive to become president, despite no prior political experience.
Fact: US governance from inception has been more hypocrisy than democracy.
Fact: Its influence has been declining for decades, notably post-9/11, its aggressive wars transforming the nation into a pariah state, increasingly reviled worldwide.
Fact: The supreme law of the land deters no US president from doing what he pleases – the Clintons, Bush/Cheney, Obama, and now Trump the clearest examples.
Fact: Powerful interests run America. Vladimir Putin explained it, saying “(w)hen a person is elected (US president), they may have some ideas.”
“Then people with briefcases arrive, well dressed, wearing dark suits, just like mine, except for the red tie, since they wear black or dark blue ones.”
“These people start explaining how things are done. And
instantly, everything changes. This is what happens with every (US) administration.”
Names and faces change. Deplorable US policies continue, worsening over time, nightmarish post-9/11, risking possible nuclear war.
Like it’s done throughout America’s political season, post-election and inauguration, The Times continues no-holds war on Trump, largely ignoring what warrants justifiable criticism.
Instead it’s against his TPP pullout, a good thing, claiming it cedes leadership to China in Asia. It cedes nothing.
The broadsheet claiming he “refused to reaffirm (NATO’s) mutual defense commitment…forcing America’s European allies to (deal) with threats like Russia on their own” is pure nonsense.
Trump should have abandoned NATO, a major threat to world peace. Instead he reaffirmed US support. The Times claiming a Russian threat is part of the Big Lie irresponsibly bashing its leadership.
Trump’s pulling out of the Paris climate deal changed little environmentally, despite hyped claims otherwise, including by The Times.
The Times: Before Trump’s presidency, “the world looked to America to set the tone and agenda…(US) leadership and engagement were undeniably good for this country and…a force for global peace and security.”
Fact: Before Trump, America waged naked aggression against one nonbelligerent country after another – notably North Korea, Southeast Asia, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Donbass by supporting Kiev putschists it installed, Somalia and Yemen, along with partnering in Israel’s wars on Palestine.
Fact: The Times and other media scoundrels support all US wars of aggression, making them complicit in high crimes against peace.
Fact: America is no “force for global peace and security” – just the opposite. It’s deplorable record speaks for itself.
The Times: “(T)he United States led the way in establishing institutions, rules and norms that would encourage countries to settle their differences peacefully and work together to solve problems that were beyond the capability of any one state.”
Fact: Longstanding US policy rejects peace and stability. It pursues endless wars of aggression for unchallenged global dominance – threatening humanity’s survival.
Don’t expect The NYT to explain – on the wrong side of vital issues, supporting ones benefitting privilege over populism.
