Russian Propaganda Malarkey
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
US anti-Russian propaganda rages, the most intense since the Cold War’s darkest days – drowning out truth-telling on vital issues.
John Kerry disgracefully called RT a “propaganda bullhorn…deployed to promote President Putin’s fantasy about what is playing out on the ground,” he ranted.
He ignored deplorable Western media and state-sponsored Voice of America propaganda broadcasts in Russian since 1947.
America’s global propaganda machine includes VA, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia; Radio and TV Marti aimed at Cuba, and Middle East broadcasting networks.
Enormous sums are spent on disinformation, fake news and Big Lies, especially by Western media scoundrels.
The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post is one of America’s leading print propaganda disseminators – Langley’s mouthpiece doing its bidding.
Its editors lied claiming “while Moscow continues to banish US international news outlets from Russian airwaves, Kremlin-funded mouthpieces such as Sputnik radio have enjoyed a field day in the United States, taking advantage of America’s open society to sow misinformation and distrust.”
Fact: Western media operate freely in Russia as long in conformity with state laws and standards, the way all free societies operate.
Fact: Sputnik News and RT provide listeners and viewers with real news, information and analysis – polar opposite how Western media scoundrels operate, proliferating all rubbish all the time on issues mattering most.
VA and other US propaganda disservices, serving as imperial mouthpieces, should be banned everywhere for supporting what demands condemnation.
WaPo: “Mr. Putin’s government, intent on undermining liberal democracies by casting doubt on the very notion of truth, and sowing division and doubt about basic Western institutions, has become increasingly adept at weaponizing information.”
Fact: If truth-telling on vital issues is “weaponiz(ation),” bring it on, the more the better.
WaPo: “English-language shows on Sputnik and, secondarily, RT — the Kremlin’s not-much-watched but widely available English language television mouthpiece — feature useful American dupes and others who need no instruction from Moscow to reinforce the narrative, already current on the extreme left and right of Western politics, that US capitalism, elections, institutions and media are corrupt.”
Fact: RT reaches over 70 million viewers weekly in 38 countries. Half that number watch daily. It enjoys the largest regional audience in Europe.
Its online audience exceeds 50 million viewers – more than Al Jazeera, Deutche Welle, Euronews and other services reaching news consumers via the Internet.
RT’s signal is carried by 22 satellites and over 230 operators. Potentially it can reach 700 million people in over 100 countries.
In North America, it has a potential audience of around 85 million people in English and Spanish via cable or satellite.
Include myself along with distinguished friends and colleagues among RT and Sputnik’s “useful…dupes.” We speak freely, taking instructions from no one.
Fact: Indeed “US capitalism, elections, institutions and (scoundrel) media are corrupt” and too debauched to change.
WaPo and the NYT stand out as especially deplorable among print media, along with worthless and offensive Western television rubbish.
