Israel’s Radical Right
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
In his book, titled “The Ascendance of Israel’s Radical Right,” Ehud Sprinzak discussed how extremists in Israel influence politics, culture, along with relations with Arab states and Palestinians.
These elements exert increasing control over West Bank, East Jerusalem and Golan settlements. They comprise up to one-fourth of Israel’s population, notably including many youths.
Their numbers and influence continue growing, heavily determining how Israel is governed, spreading their sinister ideology publicly, making the nation a greater menace than already.
The human rights group Yesh Din reports on violence by Israelis against Palestinians, notably by extremist settlers – calling what’s going on “a widespread practice involving many Israeli citizens and includes acts of violence, damage to property, takeover of Palestinian land, and other offenses.”
It’s part of a “calculated strategy for dispossessing Palestinians (from) their land” – Israel aiding what’s happening by doing nothing to stop it.
Police whitewash the vast majority of investigations into abuses against Palestinians. Prosecutorial and judicial leniency encourages violence and vandalism against them.
On Thursday, an Israeli settler struck four Palestinian children with his pickup truck, injuring them. Soldiers witnessing what happened failed to intervene.
Witnesses had to call an ambulance to transfer the children to Hadassah hospital for treatment. Their families demand a police investigation either not forthcoming or whitewashed if undertaken.
Israel’s culture of impunity permits anything goes against defenseless Palestinians. Murder and other high crimes go unpunished. Rare exceptions prove the rule.
Dehumanizing Palestinians facilitates abusing them unaccountably. In early 2016, Netanyahu said “we must defend ourselves against the wild beasts.” This type extremism pervades Israeli society.
Its aggression against besieged Gazans is called self-defense, the world community ignoring the Big Lie, letting Israel get away with mass murder, along with daily state terror throughout the Occupied Territories.
On Friday, the Palestinian Authority’s Foreign Ministry condemned Netanyahu’s regime and Israeli courts for failing to hold Israelis accountable for crimes against Palestinians.
It called religious schools run by radical/racist rabbis the root cause of violence and other abuses against them, including frequent hit-and-run incidents, young children as vulnerable as youths and adults to be struck.
Israeli authorities encourage a culture of violence and unaccountability. Palestine is a virtual battleground, its people brutalized by a ruthless occupier.
