Grenade Blast Rocks Kiev
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On Thursday, witnesses reported a grenade exploded in central Kiev in early afternoon.
Police called it an “explosion of an unidentified object on Grushevsky Street. A man and a woman have sustained injuries.”
According to a Tass correspondent at the scene, the explosion occurred between the House of the Government and the Dynamo stadium.
Ukrainian security service personnel, police chief Sergey Knyazev, bomb disposal experts and ambulances arrived shortly afterward. It’s unclear who was responsible.
August 24 is Ukraine’s independence day. A parade on Kiev’s main thoroughfare marked the occasion, featuring thousands of regime troops, along with forces from NATO states for the first time.
Alliance representatives and delegations from nine countries were in Kiev for the occasion, including from America. Defense Secretary James Mattis is there.
At a news conference with US-installed illegitimate puppet president Petro Poroshenko, he roared about “(t)he United States stand(ing) with Ukraine…We will not accept” Moscow’s control over its own Crimean territory.
He lied saying “(d)espite Russia’s denials, we know they are seeking to redraw international borders by force.” He suggested Washington will supply Kiev with more heavy weapons than already – used for naked aggression on Donbass since 2014.
Poroshenko lied saying around 3,000 “regular” Russian troops are in southeastern Ukraine. There are none.
He blustered about armored self-propelled guns, tanks, armored combat vehicles and trucks parading through Kiev would soon be sent to Donbass.
He claimed Ukraine is heading toward joining the EU and NATO. It’s unlikely the dysfunctional fascist regime will be accepted any time soon, if ever. Russia strongly opposes its becoming a NATO member, posing a strategic threat to its security if allowed.
Beginning Friday at midnight, a new agreed on ceasefire will begin. Like earlier ones, expect Kiev fascists to violate it straightaway.
Independence day was marked by regime forces shelling Donbass. The last ceasefire beginning on June 21 was violated by Kiev 30 minutes after coming into force.
