Israel Assassinates Double-Amputee Palestinian in Gaza

by Stephen Lendman ( – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh lost both his legs nine years ago in Gaza, victimized by Israeli terror-bombing. It’s been intermittent for over a decade, notably three wars of aggression since December 2008.

Israel’s third 2014 Operation Protective Edge premeditated war on Gaza was worst of all – 51 days of mass slaughter and destruction.

Nearly 2,200 Palestinians were killed, including entire families, another 11,100 injured, virtually all young Palestinian children traumatized by what happened.

Terror-bombing was ruthless and disproportionate, mostly civilians killed, infrastructure and residential areas destroyed or heavily damaged, along with hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, UN shelters and other civilian targets.

High crimes of war and against humanity were committed with impunity, no one held accountable for what happened.

Israeli forces invade and/or terror-bomb the Strip at its discretion, on a number of days since Trump’s Jerusalem declaration, in response to isolated rockets harming no one, one causing minor damage.

Trump’s deplorable, lawless action ignited a firestorm, administration officials knowing it would happen, uncaring about Palestinian lives and welfare.

The Ziofascist president supports Israel’s criminal class, an apartheid state brutalizing Palestinians daily for decades, massacring them in cold blood.

Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh was one of its countless victims – losing both his legs and a kidney to its terror-bombing, then murdered by an Israeli sniper, shot in the head to be sure he died.

Taken to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza after being shot, it was too late. He was pronounced dead, his long ordeal at the hands of a ruthless state over.

Two days before his death, he filmed a video message to the IDF, saying:

“I am passing a message to the Zionist occupation army. This land is our land. We are not going to give up. America has to withdraw the declaration it made.”

Before his death, he regularly protested along Israel’s militarized border with Gaza. A familiar sight to Israelis in his wheelchair, he was likely targeted for assassination.

Reportedly, he was the sole breadwinner for his 11-member family, working as best he could to support them on meager earnings, doing menial jobs from his wheelchair.

Years earlier, he said in an interview with Shehab News: “I hope one day to own a house. I wish that people in European and Arab countries will help me after listening to my story to get treatment abroad and prosthetic legs.”

According to Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra, Israeli snipers use banned hollow-point dum-dum bullets, expanding on entering a human body to cause maximum internal damage.

They also use toxic tear gas, burning the nose, mouth and throat, producing a suffocating effect, along with heavy coughing, vomiting and convulsions.

Thousands attended Thurayeh, martyred in defense of Palestine, victimized by Israeli viciousness. Following his funeral, his mother said he was brave facing the occupation. Even after he lost both of his legs, he would go raise the Palestinian flag on the borders.”

Israeli violence continued on Saturday, including against peaceful marchers in Bethlehem, elsewhere in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem as well.
