WaPo Supports Illegal US Occupation of Syrian Territory
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Throughout seven years of US aggression in Syria, using ISIS and likeminded terrorists as imperial foot soldiers, US-led Western media reporting has been some of the most abysmal in memory.
It’s been deplorably deceptive, journalism the way it should be abandoned, Assad blamed for US war on his country, failing to explain Washington’s imperial aims against a sovereign independent state – siding with its criminal enterprise instead of responsibly denouncing it, supporting naked aggression instead of peace.
The neocon CIA house organ Washington Post and other media scoundrels continue the fiction of civil conflict in Syria, ignoring reality on the ground.
Syria was invaded by US-supported cutthroat killers – terrorists – suppressed in media scoundrel reporting.
There’s nothing civil about ongoing conflict, showing no signs of ending because Washington wants endless war and regime change, not peace and stability restored to the country.
WaPo embraced Rex Tillerson’s Big Lie, claiming it’s “crucial to our national defense to maintain a military and diplomatic presence in Syria, to help bring an end to that conflict, and assist the Syrian people…to achieve a new political future.”
Fact: Throughout the entire history of the Syrian Arab Republic since 1930 and earlier, the nation never threatened US national security.
Fact: Washington wants Assad ousted, a pro-Western puppet replacing him.
Fact: The Trump administration has no “diplomatic presence” in Syria, just a lawless military one.
Fact: Hawkish generals running US foreign policy want endless wars – in Syria and other theaters, peace an anathema notion to imperial aggressors.
Fact: Syrians overwhelmingly reject the type “political future” Washington wants for their country – a scenario similar to endless violence, chaos, and immiseration of populations in all nations it targets for regime change.
WaPo lied claiming Obama sought to resolve Syrian’s conflict he launched “through diplomatic deals with Russia.”
There were none. Obama wanted endless war and regime change. So does Trump – their objective the same, differing somewhat in tactics employed.
WaPo: “…Vladimir Putin has repeatedly broken (his) word” on Syria.
A bald-face lie!
WaPo: Putin “back(s) the barbarous campaigns of the Syrian government to restore its control over the country by force.”
“After agreeing a few months ago to support ‘de-escalation zones’ in several parts of the country, Moscow is supporting new offensives against them.”
“On Monday there were reports that Syrian forces had again used chemical weapons against rebel-held areas in the Damascus suburbs.”
Fact: Self-defense isn’t a “barbarous” campaign. Syrian forces valiantly continue combating US-supported terrorists.
Fact: Assad’s aim is liberating his country from its terrorist infestation.
Fact: Along with Syria, Russia is the only nation going-all for conflict resolution since the early months of the war.
Fact: America and so-called “coalition” partners are ruthless aggressors, Russia’s mission in the country polar opposite.
Fact: Clear evidence showed US-supported terrorists used CWs numerous times. None suggests Syrian use at any time throughout the war.
WaPo: “The United States cannot prevent a resurgence of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, prevent Iran from building bases across Syria, or end a civil war that has sent millions of refugees toward Europe without maintaining control over forces and territory inside the country, just as Russia and Iran do.”
Fact: Russia and Iran are involved in combating US-supported terrorists.
Fact: Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS) are US creations.
Fact: Iran has no military bases in the country. Its military presence is modest, operating from Syrian bases. The Pentagon has multiple illegal bases in northern and southern Syria.
Fact: Russia and Iran support peaceful conflict resolution, Syrian territorial integrity preserved, and the right of its people alone to decide who’ll lead them – free from foreign interference.
US imperial aims are polar opposite, a rogue agenda responsible for years of mass slaughter and destruction – the rape of a nation to achieve its diabolical objectives, the same strategy employed against all countries it ruthlessly attacked post-WW II.
