Pulitzer Prize Hypocrisy

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The late Alex Cockburn called its awards “the Pulitzer farce…reminding the world that…the nation is well served by its premier east coast newspapers, the New York Times and the Washington Post.”

Both broadsheets long ago abandoned legitimate journalism, functioning as press agents for wealth, power and privilege – notably when America goes to war and in their run-up, along with malicious Russia bashing.

The Times and WaPo both won Pulitzers for their coverage of (nonexistent) Russian US presidential election meddling, whether Trump’s team colluded with Moscow during the campaign, and whether the president obstructed justice.

America’s two leading broadsheets were again honored for flagrant disinformation, Big Lies and fake news – manipulating public opinion and manufacturing consent for what demands denunciation.

The Pulitzer prize board is stacked with establishment figures, currently including a right-wing think tank head, Columbia University’s president, scoundrel media executives, NYT and WaPo pseudo-journalists, among others.

Prizes are awarded for supporting the official narrative, unrelated to what responsible journalism is supposed to be – mocking their legitimacy.

Not a shred of evidence suggests Russia interfered in America’s political process, nothing indicating Trump team/Kremlin collusion or the president obstructing justice.

Spurious reporting was honored, again proving the bigger the deception, the greater the likelihood to be recognized for it.

For over 40 years, Project Censored (PC) bestowed awards for journalism the way it’s supposed to be – annually honoring the top 25 “national news stories that are underreported, ignored, misrepresented, or censored by the US corporate media.”

PC is to Pulitzer as truth-telling is to willful deception. Media scoundrels like the Times and WaPo are responsible for truth emergency conditions.

PC is a powerful antidote to scoundrel media disinformation Big Lies, fake news and censorship.

Managed news misinformation and disinformation created a truth emergency gone unaddressed in the mainstream.

It’s why America and its rogue allies get away with waging endless wars on humanity at home and abroad – supported the Times, WaPo and other media scoundrels.

They win awards for turning truth on its head, for supporting imperial lawlessness, for Russia bashing, for marching in lockstep with US-led rogue states risking humanity’s survival.

Democracy requires a free, open, vibrant, diverse media, elements totally absent in Western societies and most others.

Truth-telling is the sworn enemy of state-sponsored propaganda and media scoundrels proliferating it.

Alternative independent sources of news, information and analysis, mainly online, are the only reliable ones – no others.
