Syrian Forces Regain Control of Border with Occupied Golan

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

For the first time since 2014, Syrian forces largely regained control over the border with Israeli-occupied Golan – freeing the area from US-supported ISIS and other terrorists.

AMN News reported the triumph as follows, saying “the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Armored Division was able to seize the Islamic State’s last border points (Monday) afternoon, following a fierce battle with the terrorist group’s Jaysh Khaled bin Walid faction.”

Government forces “overpowered the remaining Islamic State terrorists at (the Shajarah front)…captur(ing) the last major (ISIS) stronghold in the Daraa Governorate.”

Liberating “the last 50 square kilometers of territory…still under the occupation of the Jaysh Khaled bin Walid” terrorists is imminent.

Once achieved, Syrian forces will regain full control over the Yarmouk Basin and Daraa province for the first time since 2011 – the area where US aggression began.

It’s a major accomplishment made possible by Russia’s September 2015 intervention, turning the tide of battle from likely defeat to hoped for eventual triumph.

Heavy and other weapons used by ISIS, al-Nusra, and other terrorists were made in America, other NATO countries and Israel.

Russia earlier reported that unmarked helicopters delivered weapons to ISIS and other terrorists.

Last week, journalist Robert Fisk said he traced missile casing stock numbers used by US-supported ISIS, al-Nusra, and other terrorists in the ruins of eastern Aleppo “back to their original sellers” in America.

Heavy and other weapons used by anti-government terrorists don’t materialize out of thin air. They come from Western and regional suppliers – delivered cross-border from Turkey, Jordan and Israel by air or ground transport.

Terrorist groups would be no match against Syrian forces without foreign-supplied heavy and other weapons, a steady flow sent them, prolonging war endlessly.

Responding to Syrian liberation of territory bordering occupied Golan, Israeli military intelligence connected DEBKAfile shamefully claimed “Hizballah and Shiite militias commanded by Iranian Revolutionary Guards officers…fought the winning battle for the Syrian-Israeli border regions – not the Syrian army’s 4th” – a bald-faced lie.

Separately, high-level talks were held in Sochi on July 30 and 31, under the Astana process format for the 10th time, aiming for conflict resolution, spearheaded by Russia.

The Trump regime refused to attend, wanting endless war continued, not resolved. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to US obstructionism, saying:

“We consider the US refusal to send its representatives to Sochi as an intention to downplay the importance of the Astana format, and to discredit the implementation of mediation efforts in Syrian affairs that Washington is unable to put under its control.”

Trump regime hardliners want war in Syria and other war theaters continued endlessly.

Peace and stability are considered anathema to their imperial agenda – their rage for unchallenged global dominance.
