The NYT Calls Russophobia a Conspiracy Theory

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The Times and other media scoundrels invent reasons to bash Russia – proliferating state-sponsored disinformation and Big Lies about the country and Vladimir Putin personally.

Russophobia is very real, nothing imaginary about it, a scheme to demonize the country and its leadership – solely for its sovereign independence and opposition to US imperial wars of aggression the Times and other media scoundrels disgracefully cheerlead.

The Times shamefully claimed John McCain’s death “deprived the Kremlin and its propaganda machine (sic) of…a cherished punching bag (and) central protagonist in their favorite conspiracy theory (sic) – the view that Western sanctions against Russia and President Trump’s inability to lift them have nothing to do with anything Russia has done but are the result of ‘Russophobia.’ ”

In response to his death, Tass said he “one of the staunchest supporters of anti-Russian sanctions and was known for his harsh criticism of Moscow.”

The same is true about countless other Republican and undemocratic Dems – Russophobes proliferating Big Lies about the country and Vladimir Putin.

Unprincipled, ethically compromised con man Bernie Sanders is among them, more demagogue than public servant, his soul for sale at the right price.

He shamefully claimed that “the evidence is overwhelming” that Russia “help(ed) elect the candidate of their choice, Mr. Trump, to undermine in a significant way American democracy,” adding:

“The Trump campaign had repeated contacts with the senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.”

Both remarks were shameful Big Lies, typical Sanders demagoguery, bluster with no facts backing baseless accusations.

He and other Russophobes support illegally imposed political and economic sanctions – against Russia and other countries.

In response to McCain’s death,

Sanders disgracefully tweeted: “John McCain was an American hero, a man of decency and honor and a friend of mine. He will be missed not just in the US Senate but by all Americans who respect integrity and independence.”

Like most other House and Senate members, Sanders supports Washington’s imperial agenda, its wars of aggression, and state terrorism – why he praised McCain, an unindicted war criminal, instead of denouncing him.

The Times turned truth on its head, claiming Russophobia “absolves Moscow of any responsibility for the consequences of its own actions” – followed by the same old laundry list of crimes attributed to the Kremlin it had nothing to do with, no evidence ever presented supporting clearly fabricated accusations.

McCain was much more than a Russophobic scoundrel. He was an enemy of world peace, stability, equity, justice, democratic values and rule of law principles.

There was nothing redeeming about his worldview and actions throughout his public life, an unapologetic imperial spear carrier like virtually all others in Washington.

What’s going on exceeds the worst of the post-WW I Red Scare and post-WW II McCarthy witch-hunt viciousness, a smear campaign against anyone he accused of being a “card-carrying communist,” others he called “soft on communism.”

McCarthy had his critics in Washington. His extremism led to his undoing. Today, virtually everyone in the nation’s capital is Russophobic, Western media the same way, not a profile in courage around – except by alternative media, commentators and analysts.

Any US political figure daring to go the other way risks condemnation and defeat at the polls.

Doing the right thing, opposing Washington rage for endless wars, seeking cooperative relations with Russia and all other sovereign independent states is self-defeating, a political death sentence.

McCain was one among legions of Russophobes, a figure opposed to virtually everything just societies cherish, supported by media scoundrels, including the Times, instead of denouncing him, a thug portrayed as near-saintly.

The Times is a notorious lying machine, especially on war and peace, along with anything on Russia and other sovereign independent nations Washington targets for regime change by naked aggression or color revolutions – high crimes the self-styled newspaper of record supports.
