Pompeo Defends the Indefensible
It doesn’t surprise. Trump and regime hardliners running his geopolitical agenda stand by Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) and other key ruling family members.
One fascist regime supports another, allied in supporting ISIS and likeminded terrorists, partnered in multiple wars of aggression – along with valuing large kingdom oil reserves and purchases of US arms and munitions, plus other investments in the US and West.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Pompeo headlined “The US-Saudi Partnership Is Vital.” A litany of transparent Big Lies followed, saying:
“(T)he kingdom is a powerful force for Mideast stability.” Polar opposite is true. Riyadh’s alliance with Washington, NATO, Israel, and other regional rogue states is responsible for endless wars, chaos and human misery.
These nations operate the same way, their power and resources used for pure evil, not good.
Pompeo: “(D)egrading US-Saudi ties would be a grave mistake for the national security of the US and its allies” – a bald-faced lie!
Pompeo: “Saudi Arabia is working to secure Iraq’s fragile democracy and keep Baghdad tethered to the West’s interests, not Tehran’s.”
“Riyadh is helping manage the flood of refugees fleeing Syria’s civil war by working with host countries, cooperating closely with Egypt, and establishing stronger ties with Israel.”
“Saudi Arabia has also contributed millions of dollars to the US-led effort to fight Islamic State and other terrorist organizations. Saudi oil production and economic stability are keys to regional prosperity and global energy security.”
All of the above is polar opposite cold, hard truths Pompeo and other Trump regime hardliners want suppressed.
Democracy in Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and most other regional countries is pure fantasy. Nothing resembling it exists.
Riyadh’s alliance with US-led NATO aggression is responsible for the severest refugee crisis since WW II, modestly abating in Syria as territory is liberated from US/NATO/Saudi/Israeli-supported terrorists.
Along with Washington and its other complicit partners, Saudi Arabia supports the scourge of ISIS and other terrorists these countries pretend to oppose.
The world community could and should get along fine without Saudi oil and all other climate-destroying fossil fuels.
Preventing eventual ecocide depends on shifting to clean, green, renewable energy exclusively – including solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydroelectric, among other sources.
When it comes to doing the right things, Pompeo and other Trump regime hardliners never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity – on the wrong side of most everything benefitting everyone everywhere equitably.
Iran is the region’s leading peace and stability advocate – the Saudis, Israelis, and America’s presence their mortal enemies.
Not according to Pompeo, turning truth on its head, calling the Islamic Republic an “immense threat…to the world,” adding:
“An emboldened Iran would spread even more death and destruction in the Middle East, spark a regional nuclear-arms race, threaten trade routes, and foment terrorism around the world.”
All of the above apply to the US, NATO, Israel, the Saudis, and their despotic accomplices – not Iran.
Ignoring US-launched naked aggression in Yemen post-9/11, US-supported Saudi/UAE terror-bombing, over 17 years of war, responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, maybe a million or more, along vast destruction, and famine risking millions of lives, Pompeo disgracefully blamed Iran for US-initiated-and-led war crimes.
No responsible editors would touch his rubbish. Journal editors featured it, complicit in his Big Lies for publishing them.
Pompeo lied claiming the Trump regime “has taken many steps to mitigate Yemen’s suffering from war, disease and famine. We have exerted effort to improve Saudi targeting to minimize civilian casualties, and we have galvanized humanitarian assistance through our own generous example.”
Polar opposite is true. Pretending to be combating the scourge of ISIS the US supports, Trump deployed special forces to Yemen to escalate war and human suffering.
Since taking office, he increased drone war ten-fold more than Bush/Cheney, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism – drone and other aerial terror-bombing six-fold more than Obama in 2016, according to CENTCOM.
He greatly increased all forms of terror-bombing in all US war theaters – responsible for tens of thousands of civilian deaths in the rape and destruction of Mosul, Iraq and Raqqa, Syria alone – horrific high crimes gone unpunished.
His wars of aggression in multiple theaters rage with no prospect of ending them – Afghanistan the Pentagon’s prototype war, a forever one. The same goes in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, and elsewhere.
All US post-9/11 wars continue endlessly, more likely coming, Iran a prime target.
So is North Korea if diplomacy fails like several times before when initiated after the uneasy 1953 armistice. A state of war on the peninsula continues 75 years after hostilities on the ground ended.
Like Trump, Pence, Bolton, Haley, and other regime hardliners, Pompeo is a serial liar and an unindicted war criminal.
He turned truth on its head claiming “(w)ithout US help, the death toll in Yemen would be far higher. There would be no honest broker to manage disagreements between Saudi Arabia and its Gulf coalition partners, whose forces are essential to the war effort.”
“Iran has no interest in easing Yemeni suffering; the mullahs don’t even care for ordinary Iranians…Saudi Arabia has invested billions to relieve suffering in Yemen. Iran has invested zero.”
All of the above are disgraceful bald-faced lies! The US, above all other countries, bears full responsibility for Yemeni deaths and suffering. The Saudis and other US accomplices share blame.
Virtually all Pompeo’s remarks above turned truth on its head. He and other regime hardliners belong in prison doing hard time, not in high office.
They’re guilty of Nuremberg-level crimes repeatedly and endlessly – the highest of high crimes against peace, more egregious than any others.
