The Notion of Grown-Ups Deserting Trump Is Utter Nonsense

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

There’s nothing “grown-up” about hawkish militarism and belligerent wars of aggression – or letting Wall Street run US domestic policymaking.

America’s three leading broadsheets are enraged over Trump’s announced withdrawal of US forces from Syria and partial pullout from Afghanistan – the NYT, neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post and Rupert Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal.

They and virtually the entire US major media establishment support policies benefitting privileged interests exclusively at the expense of ordinary people everywhere.

They endorse and cheerlead US wars of aggression against nations threatening no one – the highest of high crimes, making them complicit in what’s going on, accessories before, during and after the fact.

The self-styled newspaper of record NYT is a national disgrace – like other major media, featuring disinformation, Big Lies and fake news on issues mattering most, notably geopolitical ones.

Its editors lied claiming James Mattis “worked to shield the world from President Trump’s worst impulses.” He wasn’t nicknamed “mad dog” for nothing. He’s a thuggish unindicted war criminal – uncaring about rule of law principles and human suffering.

He once told his troops to “have a plan to kill everybody you meet.” In Iraq, he was responsible for massacring countless thousands civilians, his high crimes well documented, including against residential areas, schools, hospitals, and mosques.

He used banned weapons, including white phosphorous able to burn skin to the bone on contact. Widespread use of depleted uranium he ordered caused an epidemic of cancer and other serious diseases.

The Times praised his resignation letter Big Lie, calling the US the “indispensable nation in the free world.” He was and remains an integral part of Washington’s war on humanity.

Times editors lied suggesting endless US wars of aggression  “keep the nation safe and the free world free.” Polar opposite is true.

The Times: “Mr. Mattis helped persuade Mr. Trump not to pull out of NATO and worked to assure Europe that the United States remained committed to a common defense of the continent.”

NATO is a US-controlled killing machine. It’s all about offense, not defense at a time the only threats America and Europe face are invented ones. No real ones exist.

The Times called Trump’s announced troop withdrawal from Syria “a bitter betrayal” of anti-Assad forces – failing to explain they’re in Syria and all other US war theaters illegally, involved in naked aggression, supporting terrorism, not combatting it.

Their presence virtually everywhere worldwide has nothing to do with defending against any threats. The Times pretends otherwise.

WaPo shamefully described Mattis as “the last line of defense against Trump,” calling him one of the “grown-ups” in his regime – along with DNI Dan Coats, geopolitical know-nothing/political prostitute Nikki Haley, and former regime officials HR McMaster, Gary Cohn, and Rex Tillerson, adding:

“(A)lmost all the grown-ups will be gone” when Mattis leaves at end of February – calling Trump’s announced Syria and Afghanistan pullouts “impetuous (and) wrongheaded…”

Along with virtually all other US and Western media, WaPo never met a US war of aggression it didn’t wholeheartedly endorse – as well as others in the wings to be launched.

The WSJ called “Trump’s handling of Syria and the Pentagon this week…damaging” to national security.

Journal editors claimed Trump’s announcement on Syria (and Afghanistan) was a “shoddy, humiliating way (to treat Mattis and the Pentagon) on such a core issue…”

Republican and undemocratic Dem policymakers, along with their appointed officials like Mattis and all the rest, threaten world peace and humanity’s survival.

The Times, WaPo, WSJ, and rest of the dominant US media establishment cheerlead what demands condemnation.

They support policies polar opposite peace, equity and justice for everyone everywhere.

They’re hostile to what benefits ordinary people, serving as press agents for dark forces, wanting all nations transformed into US vassal states, their people exploited as serfs.

They corrupted journalism, using it as advocacy for policies responsible for enormous harm on countless millions of people globally.

They’re on the wrong side of vital issues, defending the indefensible, complicit with high crimes of state for supporting them.

Part of the dirty, destructive system, they abhor press freedom they pretend to cherish, featuring virtual state-sponsored disinformation rubbish over truth-telling in daily reporting.

Their agenda is polar opposite “comfort(ing) the afflicted and afflict(ing) the comfortable” – how newspapers and other media should operate, how Chicago-based writer Finley Peter Dunne (1867 – 1936) once explained their mandate, his message long ago forgotten.
