US Imperial Arrogance

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The US and its imperial partners repeatedly blame Russia and other sovereign independent countries for their own wrongdoing – including flagrant violations of international treaties, conventions, and bilateral agreements.

Trump’s JCPOA pullout and threat to abandon Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty risk greater conflicts and chaos than already.

It’s a major risk DLT is likely mindless about, manipulated by dark forces controlling him, going their bidding, ignoring the threat to world peace.

Both of the above actions are based on Big Lies, defying world community support for the treaties, heightening international tensions when efforts should be made to ease them, making the US more a pariah state than already.

The Islamic Republic fully complies with JCPOA provisions, IAEA director general Yukiya Amano, saying “Iran has been committed to its (JCPOA) obligations, and this is an important matter.”

Trump’s pullout is part of Washington’s political, economic, financial, and propaganda war on Iran for nearly 40 years – regime change the goal, regaining a subservient client state, eliminating Israel’s main regional rival.

The Islamic Republic is a nonbelligerent nation threatening no one. The US and its imperial partners threaten everyone everywhere. Trump’s threatened INF Treaty pullout is another reckless example of imperial arrogance.

It took years of negotiations to achieve the landmark deal, defusing Cold War tensions at the time.

The historic 1987 agreement required elimination of all nuclear and conventional missiles with ranges of 310 – 620 miles (short-range) and 620 – 3,420 miles (intermediate range), along with their launchers.

Compliance is monitored by technical means, on site inspections and cooperative measures. The agreement was the first bilateral treaty designed to reduce nuclear arms. Previous ones only established ceilings.

Moscow rejects false US accusations of alleged INF breaches, including about its newest 9M729 missile. No evidence suggests it exceeds INF limits. Russia considers US claims otherwise baseless.

Washington is a serial violator, not Moscow. Its Aegis Ashore anti-missile systems in Eastern Europe near Russia’s border are capable of launching intermediate-range (Tomahawk) cruise missiles at its heartland – a flagrant INF Treaty violation, breaching the letter and spirit of the agreement.

Since Soviet Russia’s yearend 1991 dissolution, Washington repeatedly breached INF mandates, continuing missile tests prohibited by the treaty.

It’s boosting production and use of unmanned offensive vehicles, falling under the INF’s definition of ground-based cruise missiles.

On Tuesday at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Pompeo falsely claimed Russian noncompliance with INF Treaty provisions, saying the Trump regime will suspend its treaty obligations Washington breached years ago if Moscow fails to “return to full and verifiable compliance…in 60 days.”

He lied saying the US “uphold(s) the rule of law,” fulfilling “our commitments…expect(ing) the same of our treaty counterparts everywhere, and we will hold them accountable when their words prove untrustworthy.”

US-installed NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg repeated Pompeo’s Big Lies, along with falsely calling Russia “a threat” to the international community – what’s indisputably true about Washington, the North Atlantic Alliance, and their imperial partners.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova explained Moscow fully complies with its INF (and all other treaty) obligation, stressing the US “knows this well” despite false claims otherwise.

Russian upper house Federation Council Defense and Security Committee chairman Viktor Bondarev said Moscow will respond to the Trump regime’s INF Treaty pullout by “accelerating the development (of) “unique types of weapons.”

He accused Washington of groundless “made-up” accusations against Russia, a longstanding US tactic, ignoring its own consistent, repeated, and flagrant violations of international treaties, the rule of law, and other obligations.

How do you say go to hell in Russian – couched in diplomatic language, of course? That’s how Moscow should firmly respond to US hostility and false accusations  – and stop pretending both countries are “partners.”

The US considers Russia its mortal enemy. Appeasement is counterproductive. So is seeking normalized relations with a hostile nation wanting the Russian Federation transformed into a US vassal state.

Moscow should respond in kind to how it’s mistreated – short of risking WW III.
