Security Council Session on Venezuela: Hard Truths v. US Big Lies
A Trump regime-called special Security Council session on Venezuela was a pretext for pushing its Big Lies about the country on the world stage – effectively countered by the Bolivarian foreign minister. See below.
On Wednesday, at their 16th trilateral meeting in Wuzhen, China, RIC (Russia, India and China) foreign ministers met to discuss issues of concern to their governments – notably to enhance cooperative multilateral relations on regional and global issues.
On the sidelines of their meeting, Sergey Lavrov addressed the Trump regime’s aim to topple Venezuela’s democratically elected government, saying the following:
“We are watching closely the reports about what is really happening there. We see how absolutely (US) brazen attempts have been taken to artificially create a pretext for military intervention.”
“We hear direct threats from Washington that all options remain on the table. The actual implementation of these threats is pulling in military equipment and training (Pentagon) special forces.”
On Saturday, attempts were made to forcefully breach Venezuela’s borders from Colombia and Brazil “in hope that there (would) be casualties” – caused by US proxies, falsely blamed on Maduro, hard truths about weekend events unreported by establishment media.
“(H)ysterical (US) screaming…follow(ed) under the well-known scenario” – a pretext “military intervention,” Lavrov added.
“Washington, which says in public that President Maduro’s days are numbered, directly states that Cuba and Nicaragua are next in line. The US is usurping the right to use force wherever it wants in order to topple unwanted” governments, brazenly ignoring their legitimacy.
In their Wednesday joint communique, RIC foreign ministers stressed the importance for all countries to observe UN Charter principles in dealing with Venezuela – the US most of all, hellbent for regime change by whatever it takes to achieve its aims.
Russia’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev cited intelligence reports that the Trump regime is planning to intervene in Venezuela militarily, the possibility discussed in a previous article.
At Tuesday’s Security Council session, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza denounced Trump regime’s aims against his country – calling its imperial agenda the “politics of death,” adding:
“Now is the time for us to return to sanity and respect international law and respect the Venezuelan constitution. We are waiting to see the members of the Venezuelan opposition.”
“Mr. Guaido and whoever else they will decide who will sit down with the constitutional government of Venezuela, then among Venezuelans, we can build our own solution. Without intervention, interference from anyone, much less the United States.”
“We are prepared to sit down and to come up with solutions with Mr. Guaido and whoever else wishes to sit down with us, but they don’t wish to sit down with us.”
“They say there is no time for dialogue. Mr. Maduro has to go. The (government) has to change. There has to be an invasion in Venezuela. But there’s no call in this Security Council to say, ‘You have to sit down.’ ”
“Venezuela is staying out of the internal affairs of the United States and the electoral campaign here..”
“There’s a lot of hypocrisy and arrogance at play here. And this is what the UN security council should address.”
“The security council is not here to make war, the Security Council is not here to establish conditions for others to make war. The Council is not here to endorse violent breaches of the United Nations Charter.”
“Rather the Security Council is here to maintain international peace and security and to preserve future generations from the scourge of war…:et’s save Venezuela and this generation because the threat of war is here today.”
“Washington’s sole aim (is) not resolving the problems of Venezuela. Their aim is regime change via foreign intervention.”
Showing photographic evidence, Arreaza explained that when US Trojan horse “aid” was inspected, “there was not just food and medicine in the trucks, but there was equipment for barricades. There were nails, wire and so on and so forth. And this is what is (to be) used by the opposition in Venezuela.”
A previous article explained that so-called aid included tainted unfit to eat food and meds past their expiration dates, unsafe to use.
US proxies on the Colombian side of the border with Venezuela set two trucks with so-called “aid” ablaze, not Bolivarian National Guard forces, Arreaza stressing separately via Twitter the following:
“The CIA expert in false flag operations, Pompeo, thinks he can fool the world with a truck set ablaze by his own agents in Colombia…Pompeo and his hitmen are desperately searching for a pretext for war.”
Photographic evidence showed anti-government guarimbas on the Colombian side of the border making Molotov cocktails used to torch two trucks with Trojan horse “aid.”
Others were supplied slingshots to launch rocks and firebombs at Venezuelan security forces. In self-defense, they responded largely with tear gas.
Russia’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia stressed that “under no circumstances can (the US PR stunt) be described as a humanitarian mission,” adding:
“What took place on Saturday looks not like aid. It looks like what the US calls ‘force-feeding.’ It’s a type of torture, in case you did not know.”
“Instead of a hypocritical attempt to deliver aid worth $20 million, it is necessary to immediately unblock the accounts of Venezuelan state-run companies in US banks, worth $11 billion, which were allocated by the government to purchase medicines, food and daily essentials.”
US-orchestrated weekend violence continued on Monday and Tuesday, Maduro explaining the following:
In cahoots with the Trump regime, “(g)angs of Colombian criminals, armed formations, and Venezuelan thugs were set up to attack (the Venezuelan) border on February 23. But they did not pass, and they shall never pass. Hands off Venezuela. We demand respect for our sovereignty and territory.”
Turning truth on its head, warmonger Pompeo threatened “action against those who oppose the peaceful restoration of democracy (sic) in Venezuela.”
In Hanoi, Vietnam ahead of the second (Feb. 27 and 28) Kim Jong-Un/Trump summit, John Bolton tweeted threats against Maduro, vowing he won’t “go unpunished.”
Russia, China, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, African Union countries, and many others support Maduro’s legitimacy as Venezuela’s president and the nation’s sovereign independence.
They oppose Trump regime imperial aims to transform the country into a US vassal state by brute force.
Note: Convicted felon, Trump regime point man for toppling Maduro, Elliott Abrams, represented the US at Tuesday’s UN session on Venezuela.
He recited a litany of bald-faced Big Lies, heard time and again before by him, Trump, Pompeo, Bolton, and others in the US – unjustifiably justifying Washington’s lawless regime change tactics.
The whole world knows what’s going on, what the scourge of imperialism is all about, its aims essential to defeat in Venezuela and everywhere else.
World peace and the fate of humanity depend on it!
