Pompeo Vows to Push Back Against Britain’s Jeremy Corbyn Becoming PM
Throughout the post-WW II era, the US meddled in scores of foreign elections — along with toppling dozens of sovereign governments, assassinating legitimate leaders, removing others by color revolutions and coups.
Reigning terror worldwide is what US imperialism is all about, worse than ever with Trump regime hardliners in charge.
Along with escalating wars of aggression in multiple theaters they inherited from Bush/Cheney and Obama, they’re waging war by other means on Iran and Venezuela, along with trade war on China.
The US tolerates no sovereign independent governments refusing to bend to its will, targeting them for regime change — including allies ruled by leadership not submissive enough to its demands.
UK Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is on Pompeo’s target list. According to a recording of his remarks at a closed-door Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations days earlier obtained by the neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post, he pledged to push back to prevent him from becoming UK prime minister in a future general election.
He also perpetuated the myth of Corbyn being anti-Semitic, a bald-faced Big Lie, vowing to challenge his anti-Jewish actions that don’t exist.
Hostility in the US and Britain toward Corbyn on this issue has nothing to do with anti-Semitism, everything to do with his support for Palestinian rights and opposition to Israeli oppression.
By criticizing unacceptable Israeli actions, US and UK hardliners consider him an enemy of the state.
The same is true for what he calls an “ethical foreign policy.” Former right wing extremist UK prime minister David Cameron once called him a threat to national security.
In Britain, Blairites, Thatcherites, and dominant media oppose him. The same goes for their US counterparts for wanting humanity saved from the scourge of endless wars of aggression.
Last February, the NYT falsely accusing Britain’s Labor Party under Corbyn of being “anti-Semitic,” adding:
“…Jeremy Corbyn has allowed a demonological view of Israel to foster Jew hatred in the Labour Party since taking over its leadership in 2015,” repeating the bald-faced Big Lie.
Corbyn earlier chaired Britain’s Stop the War Coalition, standing down when he became Labor Party leader, saying at the time:
It’s “now (his) job to lead the (party he chairs), in the struggle for peace and international justice, and that is demanding my undivided attention,” adding:
“In stepping down as Chair, I want to make absolutely clear my continuing solidarity with the Coalition and its work against wars of intervention.”
Corbyn also favors nuclear disarmament and replacing neoliberal harshness with social justice, reversing draconian welfare cuts inflicting enormous harm on Britain’s most disadvantaged.
He once called for quantitative easing for ordinary Brits. Money injected into economies create growth and jobs. When consumers have money, they spend it. A virtuous circle of prosperity is possible. Western policies benefit monied interests exclusively.
He also supports other progressive policies serving all Brits equitably, not just its privileged few the way things are today throughout the West, especially in the US, an agenda supported by both extremist right wings of its war party.
Pompeo and other Trump regime hardliners despise Corbyn for opposing their core policies. He believes in peace, equity, justice, the rule of law, and democracy for real, not the fantasy version in Western societies.
For these reasons, Pompeo vowed to push back against his becoming UK prime minister, saying the following:
“It could be that Mr. Corbyn manages to run the gauntlet and get elected. It’s possible. You should know, we won’t wait for him to do those things to begin to push back. We will do our level best. It’s too risky and too important and too hard once it’s already happened.”
In other words, in Britain’s next general election, the Trump regime intends going all out to prevent Corbyn from becoming prime minister.
In response, a Labor Party spokesman slammed his remarks, saying Trump “and his officials’ attempts to decide who will be Britain’s next prime minister are an entirely unacceptable interference in the” UK.
In Britain last week for the 75th D-Day commemoration, Trump expressed support for Boris Johnson as Britain’s next prime minister, saying he “would do a very good job,” unacceptably meddling in UK politics.
That’s what the US does repeatedly, ignoring the principle of nonintervention. It’s inviolable under the UN Charter’s Article 2(4), stating:
“All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.”
Article 2(7) states: “Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter…”
Article 8 of the 1933 Montevideo Convention of Rights and Duties says: “No state has the right to intervene in the internal or external affairs of another.”
Under Article 10, differences between states “should be settled by recognized pacific methods.” Article 11 calls sovereign state territory “inviolable…”
Other international laws prohibit intervening in the internal affairs of other countries.
What the US and its imperial partners do repeatedly is flagrantly illegal. There’s no ambiguity about it.
It’s all about advancing its imperium at the expense of world peace, stability, and the rights of ordinary people everywhere.
