Trump’s EO Accelerates Proliferation of GMOs

On June 11, Trump’s Executive Order 13874 accelerated the US war on safe to eat foods and ingredients, aiming to replace them with hazardous to human health GMOs.
GHW Bush’s 1992 Executive Order falsely called them “substantially equivalent” to ordinary seeds and crops, saying no government regulation is necessary.
Agribusiness giants want all animal and vegetable life forms patented. They want worldwide food control. Prioritizing profits and control over what people eat in the US and worldwide, they want it genetically engineered.
Trump’s EO “order(ing) federal agencies to streamline the agricultural biotechnology regulatory processes is all about gutting already weak regulatory oversight of the US food supply, wanting no restrictions on GMO proliferation.
He lied calling bioengineered crops safe to eat. He lied saying his EO “support(s) America’s hardworking farmers.” It serves the interests of agribusiness giants at the expense of small farmers.
He’s no “ally and friend” to ordinary Americans, wanting powerful monied interests unrestrained to exploit them for maximum profits.
GMO foods and ingredients already saturate the US marketplace. Over 80% of processed foods contain them.
Most corn, rice, soybeans, vegetable oils, various fruits and vegetables, breakfast cereals, meat, pork, poultry, eggs, and dairy products from animals fed GM feed, along with countless other foods and ingredients are genetically engineered — most consumers none the wiser about what they ingest.
Baking powder, citric acid, food starch, fructose, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, lecithin, malt, Nutrasweet, soy sauce, tofu, and countless other ingredients are made from unsafe to eat GMOs.
The corporate controlled Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lied claiming no evidence shows GMOs are different from other foods. The agency lied saying they’re safe to eat, no studies of their safety required.
Peer-reviewed animal studies revealed serious hazards to human health from GM foods, including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation, along with harm to bodily organs and the gastrointestinal system.
GMO expert Jeffrey Smith explained that “(t)he genetic engineering process creates massive collateral damage, causing mutations in hundreds or thousands of locations throughout the plant’s DNA,” adding:
“Natural genes can be deleted or permanently turned on or off, and hundreds may change their behavior. Even the inserted gene can be damaged or rearranged, and may create proteins that can trigger allergies or promote disease.”
In his book titled “Seeds of Deception,” Smith explained how efforts to inform the public about GMO hazards have been quashed, reliable science buried, independent scientists vilified, hounded, fired from their positions, and threatened for research findings, revealing the truth about unsafe to ingest GM foods and ingredients.
Rats fed GM potatoes had smaller livers, hearts, testicles and brains, damaged immune systems, and showed structural changes in their white blood cells, making them more vulnerable to infection and disease compared to other rats fed non-GMO potatoes.
Thymus and spleen damage showed up. So did enlarged tissues, including the pancreas and intestines, and there were cases of liver atrophy as well as significant proliferation of stomach and intestines cells that could be a sign of greater future risk of cancer.
Equally alarming, results showed up after 10 days of testing, and they persisted after 110 days. That’s the human equivalent of 10 years.
Independent studies confirmed these results. Corporate controlled FDA policy permits the proliferation of GM foods and ingredients.
According to Smith, it “set the stage for the rapid deployment of the new technology,” allowed the seed industry to become “consolidated, millions of acres (to be) planted, hundreds of millions to be fed (these foods in spite of nations and consumers objecting, and) laws passed” approving what should be banned.
Little regulation controls GMOs. Trump wants it eliminated entirely to accelerate the proliferation of these foods and ingredients at the expense of safe ones.
Promoting GMO proliferation is unrelated to sound science. Clear evidence shows these foods and ingredients constitute a hazard to human health, along with an illegal takeover of nations’ food supplies where they’re produced and sold.
The Center for Food Safety (CFS) “challeng(es) harmful food production technologies and promot(es) sustainable alternatives.”
It calls genetically engineered plants and animals “one of the greatest and most intractable environmental challenges of the 21st century.”
They potentially contaminate all non-GMO life forms. Despite risks too great to ignore, Congress and US regulatory agencies ignore them – abdicating their authority to agribusiness, giving it free rein, letting food giants slow-poison us.
Consumers in the US and many other countries are unwitting guinea pigs, part of a vast uncontrolled, unregulated human experiment.
Dozens of countries where GMOs are sold require labeling. US legislation gives food sellers labeling options more confusing than helpful to consumers.
Monied interests matter more than human health, safety and welfare. Billionaire real estate developer Trump and vast majority of congressional members serve corporate America exclusively at the expense of ordinary people everywhere.
Straightaway in office he proved it, repeating his betrayal time and again, his pro-GMO EO the latest example.
Hillary earlier endorsed GM foods. At the White House, she and husband Bill ate organic meals.
The NYT once called Trump “a bacon-and-eggs man who likes his steaks well done and perceives fast food as both efficient and sanitary,” adding:
Mrs. Trump…is a champion of drinking water and eating a lot of fruit. (D)aughter Ivanka…gardens with her children.”
It’s unclear if GMOs are off the White House menu. It’s very clear that Trump is disdainful of the rights, health, and welfare of ordinary people everywhere.
