Gibraltar Rejects Trump Regime Demand to Detain Iranian Tanker

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Last week, Gibraltar’s Supreme Court ordered Iran’s Adrian Daria (Grace 1 its original name) released, letting it sail to its intended destination.

On July 4, Britain seized it illegally on orders from the Trump regime, likely Iranophobe hardliner John Bolton.

Trump’s Justice Department issued an unlawful warrant to seize the vessel, wanting it confiscated along with its oil cargo — perhaps intending its own maritime piracy act in international waters.

Hegemons operate by their own rules exclusively, ignoring the rule of law in pursuing rogue objectives.

The Trump regime, (likely Bolton or Pompeo), pressured Gibraltar’s government to comply with an illegal US warrant for the vessel’s seizure — request denied, a statement saying:

“The Central Authority’s inability to seek the Orders requested is a result of the operation of  European Union law and the differences in the sanctions regimes applicable to Iran in the EU and the US,” adding:

“The EU sanctions regime against Iran – which is applicable in Gibraltar – is much narrower than that applicable in the US.”

US and EU sanctions on Iran, Syria, and other nations are flagrantly illegal. Countries observing them are complicit in criminality.

What’s next for the Adrian Daria remains to unfold. On Sunday, former IRGC commander  Mohsen Rezayee warned Britain’s BoJo regime not to repeat its July 4 maritime piracy in cahoots with the White House.

Gibraltar’s release of the tanker “was a clear message showing Islamic Iran’s deterrence power to everyone,” he tweeted.

On Sunday, Iran’s Navy commander Admiral  Hossein Khanzadi the Adrian Daria won’t be escorted by a naval vessel, but if needed, this action will be taken.

The tanker is expected to sail imminently. The Pentagon has plenty of regional muscle to steal it in international waters if that’s what Trump regime hardliners intend.

Tehran’s envoy to Britain Hamid Baeidinejad said renaming the vessel as an Iranian-flag tanker is unrelated to circumventing (illegal) US sanctions. It’s a National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) ship.

It was renamed to conform to international law because the former Panama-flag vessel refused to keep it registered — clearly on orders from Trump regime hardliners, the country a virtual US colony — like most others in Latin America.

Radio Farda is a US anti-Iran propaganda operation. Repeating the Trump regime’s justice department Big Lie, it falsely accused Tehran of “scheming to unlawfully access the US financial system to support illicit shipments to Syria…by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a designated foreign terrorist organization.”

The US, its ruling authorities, military, and intelligence apparatus are a collective terrorist organization, operating worldwide — not Iran or its IRGC.

On August 16, Pompeo warned mariners of serious consequences if serve aboard an Iranian ship, defying (illegal) US sanctions.

The Trump regime intends no letup in its “maximum pressure against Iran, risking belligerent confrontation by pushing things too far.
