Russian Foreign Ministry on Syria, Venezuela and Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry on Syria, Venezuela and Ukraine

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

US aggression in Syria rages endlessly in its 9th year. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (MZ below) called the current situation “tense.”

It’s that and a whole lot more because of US rage to topple Bashar al-Assad, gain another imperial trophy, and isolate Iran.

The failed plan didn’t end conflict, things most serious in Idlib province — infested with likely tens of thousands of heavily armed US-supported jihadists.

They hold terrorized civilians in hostage as human shields. MZ explained that “(t)hey ignored Russia and Syria’s attempts to introduce a ceasefire on August 2.”

Ceasefires are exercises in futility whenever announced, breached straightaway by jihadists every time, acting on US orders.

Syria’s liberation depends on forcing their surrender or routing them in battle, why sustained Russian aerial operations are vitally important.

Talks with jihadists are a waste of time. The same goes for dealings with the US, its policymakers never to be trusted.

Time and again, Russia’s diplomatic outreach to the US achieves nothing, including seven years of trying to end conflict in Syria — because militarists in charge of US foreign policy support endless wars of aggression, peace and stability considered anathema notions.

Pentagon and CIA operatives hold tens of thousands of displaced Syrians hostage in refugee camps under deplorable conditions.

MZ called the al-Hawl camp “an open-air prison…contagious diseases (reported).” Lack of medicines and other essentials to life cause unknown numbers of death and widespread human suffering.

“(L)iving conditions in the camp only encourage the extremist views of its radical residents, especially the young people,” said MZ, recruited by the Pentagon and CIA as anti-Damascus jihadists.

Nothing in prospect suggests anything positive ahead for long-suffering Syrians in harm’s way. MZ’s “optimis(m) about the political track” isn’t supported by evidence, showing the US wants endless war to continue.

Things in Venezuela worsened with the threat of an illegal Trump regime blockade of the country after ordering an unlawful embargo by executive order.

Geopolitical/economic know-nothing Trump is captive to dark forces controlling him, a powerless figurehead doing their bidding.

MZ said his regime “ignored (Russia’s) calls to lift sanctions against the social sector…to help improve the humanitarian situation in this country,” adding:

“(T)he White House continues its attempts to put pressure on the people of this sovereign state which has no intention of renouncing its high-priority principles and does not want to be managed externally.”

MZ and other Russian officials surely know that the purpose of US sanctions war, including against the Russian Federation, is to harm the economies of targeted nations and their people.

Ordinary people everywhere want dirty US hands kept off their countries. International law demands it. US policymakers do what they please unaccountably at home and abroad.

Along with hot wars in multiple theaters, US wars by other means rage against Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, Venezuela and other countries.

“The situation is being deliberately aggravated and intensified still further time and again” by the Trump regime, said MZ, referring to its unlawful actions against the Bolivarian Republic that applies to numerous nations worldwide.

Criticizing US policymakers for “unilateral sanctions and the unacceptability of interfering in the domestic affairs of other state” falls on deaf ears in Washington every time.

Toughness is the only language its regimes understand. Reasoning with them is a waste of time.

Trump regime actions against Venezuela, Iran, and other nations risks violent confrontation, a US specialty.

Britain partners with all US wars of aggression and by other means.

MZ: the UK “is hot on the tracks of its (US and other imperial) partners. (It’s) completing a military base on an island in the mouth of the Essequibo River (in Guyana on the phony) pretext of thwarting arms and drugs smugglers.”

Since at least the 1950s, the CIA has been heavily involved in illicit drugs trafficking, major US and other Western banks involved in laundering tens of billions of dollars of dirty money.

MZ: Anti-Bolivarian Venezuelans are being “trained” at the UK base, CIA operatives likely involved.

“After that, they will infiltrate Venezuela, destabilize the situation there and commit various acts, including extremist and terrorist attacks.”

“At the same time,” US establishment media are complicit with the Trump regime’s propaganda war on Venezuela, including falsely accusing the country “of being a major drug threat for the United States.”

US media proliferated Big Lies about Venezuela are “reckless and counterproductive,” MZ stressed.

Ukraine’s Zelensky regime serves US imperial interests like its predecessor.

MZ: “(T)he number of shell attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces has grown considerably over the last week. Although everybody expected the opposite.”

Intermittent US-orchestrated war by Kiev fascists against Donbass freedom fighters and their people has been ongoing for over five years with no end of it in prospect.

Residential areas are being attacked with artillery and mortar fire. According to a Donetsk People’s Republic spokesman days earlier:

“The intensification of Ukrainian invaders near the contact line has one goal, the complete end of the existing ceasefire and the transition to a large-scale offensive against the republic.”

President Zelensky promised an end to war on Donbass last spring. It continues, heading for escalation, likely on orders from Washington.

MZ asked if he’s “concerned about the situation in Donbass, as he said at the emergency briefing on August 7, then why has he not yet demanded an investigation of his security forces? Does he control them or not?”

Instead of ending Kiev aggression on Donbass, he’s continuing endless war, a pawn serving US imperial interests.

Ukraine is a fascist police state. The US manipulates its aggression, ignores its human rights abuses against ordinary Ukrainians.

Its military is plagued by desertions, thousands of soldiers unwilling to wage war on other Ukrainians.

They’re underpaid, poorly fed and clothed, and otherwise mistreated. Evidence shows poor morale, alcohol abuse, violations of military discipline, and crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians.

Soldiers deserting their units leave for other parts of the country, join Donbass freedom fighters, or seek asylum in Russia or other countries.

In February 2014, the Obama regime replaced democratic Ukraine with Nazi-infested fascist tyranny.

Trump continues the high crimes in the country his predecessor initiated.
