Russian Foreign Ministry on Syria, Iran, and Venezuela
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (MZ below) explained that the latest Astana meeting on resolving years of war in Syria was held on August 1 and 2.
Years of Russian-led diplomatic outreach in Geneva, Astana, and Sochi failed to advance things toward restoring peace and stability to the country because US Republicans and undemocratic Dem want endless war for regime change.
Their objective is unchanged since Obama launched aggression against Syria in early 2011. Trump escalated the horrors he initiated.
Endless conflict continues, especially in Idlib province, infested with tens of thousands of US-supported jihadists — heavily armed with US, NATO, Israeli, and Turkish weapons.
MZ: “(W)e continue to be alarmed by the tense situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, as (al-Nusra terrorists) continue shelling and attacking nearby areas from that zone,” adding:
“A difficult humanitarian situation persists in the Rukban and Al-Hawl camps. Despite encouraging signals regularly given by Western representatives, the situation there is not changing for the better.”
The Pentagon and CIA use refugee camps they control as recruiting grounds for anti-government fighters, arming and training them at illegally established military bases in the country.
Despite hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees back home in liberated areas, endless US-led aggression continues.
MZ noted that Russia is “one of the leaders in providing scholarships to Syrian students, (providing) a third of all foreign grants.”
Moscow is also the leader in supplying humanitarian aid to the country, nothing coming from the US or other Western countries.
Trump regime rage for regime change in Iran “increas(ed) (the possibility of) conflict in the Gulf,” said MZ, adding:
“(D)evelopments are…moving towards a dangerous point and are fraught with the risk of a major military conflict.”
Trump regime hardliners are “deliberately making the situation worse…(by colluding with Britain’s) pirate seizure of the Iranian (Grace 1) tanker” — a flagrant maritime law breach.
“(O)ther countries are being” pressured to ally with hostile US anti-Iran policies — with little success after weeks of trying.
Notably Germany, Japan, and India refused to join an anti-Iran maritime coalition. Perhaps no NATO nations will become part of it, Britain the most likely exception, a longtime appendage of Washington’s imperial agenda, notably partnering in its wars of aggression.
The US, Israel, the Saudis, UAE, and their rogue allies alone constitute Middle East land, sea, and aerial threats — Russia a counterforce to their hostile to peace agenda.
MZ: The Trump regime “is looking for a pretext to raise tensions, continue aggressive rhetoric against Iran and propel the conflict toward a more active and hot phase.”
Russia supports the sovereign rights and territorial integrity of all nations. It opposes US hostility toward countries on its target list for regime change, notably Iran and Venezuela.
It backs talks between Venezuelan officials and US-supported opposition elements. They’ve gone nowhere because of unacceptable demands for President Maduro to step down, along with covert and overt Trump regime aims to topple his legitimate government.
Right-wing EU and Latin American regimes support the hostile US agenda, including its sanctions war, harming the Venezuelan economy and its people.
Pompeo’s demand for democratically elected and reelected Maduro to step down is a nonstarter.
MZ: “Talks are seen (by the Trump regime) not as a path to look for a compromise and ways to settle the conflict but to move towards a predetermined goal” of replacing Venezuelan social democracy with US-controlled fascist tyranny.
US policies under Republicans and undemocratic Dems are hostile to ordinary people at home and abroad.
Time and again, the world leading belligerent/human rights abuser USA blames victimized nations and people for its high crimes against peace.
Nations for peace and the UN are guilty of failing to hold its rogue actors and complicit partners accountable for crimes too egregious to ignore.
