Imperial Press Agent Media

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Without establishment media support, US wars of aggression, color revolutions, old-fashioned coups, and other hostile actions wouldn’t get out of the starting gate.

The imperial states relies on their press agent services, supporting what demands denunciation — the dominant fourth estate operating as a mouthpiece for the above high crimes, defending the indefensible.

Media watchdog Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) explained how establishment media endorsed the CIA’s coup in Bolivia by proliferating a litany of bald-faced Big Lies about events in the country following Evo Morales’ democratic reelection on October 20.

FAIR: NYT editors falsely accused him of “brazenly abusing the power and institutions put in his care by the electorate (sic)” — a bald-faced Big Lie, polar opposite reality, adding:

The Times turned truth on its head, falsely claiming “Morales had steadily concentrated power in his hands and planted loyalists in key institutions, (including in Bolivia’s) Supreme Court…” More on this below.

FAIR: The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post lied, claiming “ ‘a majority of Bolivians wanted (him) to leave office (sic)’— a claim for which they provided no evidence (because none exists) — while claiming that he had ‘grown increasingly autocratic’ and that ‘his downfall was his insatiable appetite for power (sic).’ ”

Separately, WaPo headlined: “Bolivia is in danger of slipping into anarchy. It’s Evo Morales’ fault.”

Reading like Langley press releases, all of the above is pure rubbish.

FAIR: “The Wall Street Journal argued that Morales ‘is a victim of his own efforts to steal another election (sic),’ saying that (he) “rigged the rules time and again to stay in power (sic).”

Elected politicians everywhere appoint ministers, bureaucrats, and judges who support their agenda — notably in the West.

In Bolivia, Supreme Court justices are elected. So its people “packed and stuffed the court with (jurists) they voted for,” not Morales, FAIR stressed.

Claiming Bolivia “descend(ed) into dictatorship” under his leadership ignored his democratic election and reelection four times.

The country’s open, free and fair process is polar opposite the US money-controlled system, dirty business as usual winning every time.

Supporters of peace, stability, the rule of law, and democracy the way it’s supposed to are excluded from high office in the US and West, the system rigged against them.

Yet the Journal called the CIA’s coup “a democratic breakout in Bolivia.”

FAIR: “The Times, Post and Journal…embrace(d) an anti-democratic, racist, US-facilitated and encouraged right-wing coup” — US-installed fascist tyranny replacing Bolivian democracy.

A Final Comment

On Tuesday, FAIR headlined: “Why Can’t Venezuela Be More Like Bolivia,” saying:

Establishment media cry foul “when foreign elections don’t go the way the US empire wants them to, and find roundabout ways to label the violent attempts by vocal right-wing minorities to use military forces to overthrow leftist governments as ‘protests’ rather than coups,” adding:

A Reuters propaganda report was typical, lamenting that “Maduro’s Military Stands in the Way of a Bolivia Repeat in Venezuela.”

Other major media reports are similar — about all sovereign independent countries on the US target list for regime change.

FAIR “documented how corporate media consistently criticize the success of left-wing political agendas pursued abroad in countries like Venezuela and Bolivia—in defiance of US imperialism—because they are afraid of the threat of a good example.”

“That might be why corporate media are wondering why Venezuela can’t be more like Bolivia in calling for a repeat coup there—which they won’t call a coup, of course” if happens.
