Will Trump Be Impeached and Removed from Office?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Only two US presidents were impeached, both for political reasons, not legitimate ones, neither removed from office. Nixon resigned to avoid a politicized impeachment for the wrong reasons.

Polls on impeaching Trump are split, most Dems for removing him, most Republicans against, no majority for either alternative — nothing close to a required Senate super-majority to remove him if things go this far.

House Dem Brenda Lawrence broke ranks, saying she supports censuring Trump, not impeaching him, a meaningless gesture given the great political divide in the country if things turn out this way.

Despite all the huffing and puffing by anti-Trump Dems and supportive media, they haven’t laid a glove on him.

The televised impeachment hearings laid an egg, the Washington Times headlining: “Ratings fall flat as most Americans tune out impeachment spectacle,” saying:

“There are about 330 million Americans. According to the ratings, nearly 320 million of them aren’t watching the House impeachment proceedings…”

What’s going on is one of the most disturbing political spectacles in US history. Russiagate failed, its Ukrainegate spinoff appearing no more successful.

There’s overwhelming just cause to remove Trump for “high crimes and misdemeanors,” the same true for most of his predecessors, the vast majority of current and earlier congressional members, as well as most bureaucrats involved in foreign policy.

Dems aren’t going anywhere near Trump’s real offenses because they share guilt in crimes of war, against humanity, breach of the public trust, and other constitutional violations.

Trump is politically attacked for winning an election he was supposed to lose. Dems and establishment media want revenge.

In its November 8, 2016 election day edition, the NYT said the following:

“Hillary Clinton is favored to win the presidency, based on the latest state and national polls. A victory by Mr. Trump remains possible: Mrs. Clinton’s chance of losing is about the same as the probability that an NFL kicker misses a 37-yard field goal.”

As the saying goes, the rest is history. He won. She lost. Undemocratic Dems, the Times, and other anti-Trump establishment media are unforgiving.

What’s going on is all about wanting him delegitimized and weakened to give Dems an edge in November 2020 elections.

It’s not about removing him from office. While impeachment is likely, it’s not certain. If more Dems break ranks for censure, drawing up articles of impeachment will be for naught.

Trump may come out of this unscathed, Dems and supportive media with mud on their faces.

After impeachment hearings against him, Bill Clinton’s approval rating was the highest of his tenure at 73%. He left office with a Gallup poll approval rating of 65%.

While Trump won’t likely match these figures, his job approval has been fairly steady throughout his tenure at slightly above or below 40%, according to Gallup Daily tracking, currently at 43%.

Current congressional job approval is 24%, according to Gallup, its actions overwhelmingly disapproved of.

The NYT and CIA house organ Washington Post are two of the most vocal Trump critics — for the wrong reasons, avoiding the right ones.

Trump’s dealings with Ukrainian President Zelinsky were much ado about nothing, a tempest in a teapot.

Not according to Times editors, saying his “Ukraine scheme (is) what the founders warned us about (sic).”

In his farewell address, George Washington warned against entangling foreign alliances.

Dwight Eisenhower warned about “(t)he potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power…”

He called it a “potential enemy of the national interest…a distorted use of the nation’s resources…fail(ing) to comprehend its grave implication…(affecting our) livelihood (and) the very structure of our society.”

The above warnings went unheeded, real crimes of state ignored, politicized fake ones used against earlier presidents and Trump.

Separately, the Times falsely accused Moscow of “blam(ing) Ukraine for its own 2016 election interference” that never occurred, citing the US intelligence community that never presented a shred of evidence backing its accusations because none exists.

The Times: The above no-revelations/revelations “demonstrate Russia’s persistence in trying to sow discord among its adversaries (sic) — and show that the Kremlin apparently succeeded (sic), as unfounded claims about Ukrainian interference seeped into Republican talking points,” adding:

“American intelligence agencies believe Moscow is likely to redouble its efforts as the 2020 presidential campaign intensifies (sic).”

“The classified briefing for senators also focused on Russia’s evolving influence tactics, including its growing ability to better disguise operations (sic).”

The above rubbish is typical yellow journalism infesting all Times editions.

A shameful WaPo column accused Republicans of “failing to support impeachment of a president who arguably has committed more serious ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ and acts of bribery than all his predecessors combined (sic).”

No self-respecting editors would touch this rubbish. CIA-connected WaPo editors featured it.

WaPo: “Trump has been disloyal to the United States, not only in giving Russia a leg up in its war against Ukraine (sic), but also in broadcasting his propaganda. And for that, Republicans are just as guilty (sic).”

No “war against Ukraine” exists, no Russian aggression, plenty by the US-installed Kiev putschist regime against its own people — what US military aid to the country goes for, none of it for self-defense at a time its only enemies are invented. No real ones exist.

The colossal Trump impeachment scam will continue after the Thanksgiving holiday break.

It’s gone nowhere. Will Dems cut their losses and settle for endless Trump bashing short of the futility of trying to remove him by impeachment?

The longer the sham drags on, the more it may benefit Trump and Republicans at the expense of Dems, especially if there’s a Senate impeachment trial the GOP will go all-out to politicize to its advantage.

As for the deplorable fourth estate, followers of their rubbish provide clear evidence that Americans are the most over-entertained, uninformed people on the planet.
