NYT Double Standards on Iran

NYT Double Standards on Iran

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Throughout 40 years of Islamic Republic history, the Times waged editorial war on the country — wanting it returned to US vassal state status, rejecting its sovereign rights and welfare of its people.

In response to the Trump regime’s assassination of IRGC Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani, the Times shamefully vilified a redoubtable national hero, falsely saying:

He was “indisputably an enemy of the American people…responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans and a great many others in the region” — a bald-faced Big Lie, typical Times hatemongering disinformation.

Soleimani was a renowned well-loved figure. He played a lead role in defending Iran from foreign threats, along with key involvement in combatting the scourge of US-supported ISIS in the region.

Times pseudo-journalist Tom Friedman, specializing in state-approved propaganda, press release rubbish unfit to print or read, turned truth on its head about Soleimani, falsely claiming he “pushed (Iran) to build an empire, but drove it into the ground instead” — what utter bunkum!

In virtually all his columns no responsible editors would touch, he finds new ways to embarrass himself.

Along with shamefully bashing Iran and Soleimani with Big Lies, the Times slammed Trump for authorizing his assassination.

An opinion piece warned of “dire consequences” in the aftermath of what happened, including the threat of war with Iran.

Pentagon cool heads want no part of tangling with its powerful military. Already bogged down in three quagmire wars, they want a 4th avoided.

Trump’s claim about killing Soleimani to avoid imminent attacks on US personnel in the region under his direction was willful deception.

Not a shred of evidence suggests it. Soleimani was a heroic national defender, not an aggressor like the US and its imperial allies.

A separate Times opinion piece called US foreign policy “broken,” proved by Soleimani’s assassination, adding:

“A properly functioning National Security Council would never have let it happen for good reason.”

Killing Soleimani “made little strategic sense.” Trump likely acted on impulse.

Eliminating the redoubtable general elevated him to martyr status, arousing tens of millions in Iran, the Middle East, and elsewhere against US aggression and its regional presence.

Ignoring the broadsheet’s support for all US wars of aggression throughout the post-WW II era, Times editors called on Congress to stop “Trump’s rush to war with Iran.”

At the same time, they turned truth on its head about Soleimani, falsely calling him a “blood-soaked military commander” — what applies to US, NATO, and Israeli warriors waging aggression, not how peace champion Iran and its military operates.

The Netanyahu regime reportedly knew in advance of the plot to kill Soleimani, not US European allies or Congress.

International law prohibits preemptive/aggressive attacks by one country on the territory of another.

The US War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of ordering military action.

Times hostility toward Iran is matched by its anti-Trump furor — for winning an election he was supposed to lose, wanting him removed from office or at least denied a second term.

On war, peace, and related issues, not a dime’s worth of difference separates the agendas of both right wings of the US one-party state.

The Times and other establishment media support their war on humanity at home and abroad.

Escalating ongoing ones and/or launching new ones are most likely ahead.

Is Iran next on the US target list to strike more aggressively than already?

Will US rage for endless wars ignite the mother of all Middle East conflicts by terror-bombing Iran?

Are the Trump regime and Pentagon prepared for mass US casualties?

Can they handle growing public furor worldwide against its rage for smashing one nation after another?

Have I enough years left to witness the US empire’s demise — in time to prevent its rage for endless wars from killing us all?
