NYT Iran Bashing Following Trump’s Act of War

NYT Iran Bashing Following Trump’s Act of War

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Instead of denouncing his assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi deputy PMU leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the Times and other establishment media praised his war crime against both nations.

They unjustifiably justified the criminal action by a litany of bald-faced Big Lies — reading like a Pentagon/CIA press release, making them complicit with war crimes, what they’ve done countless times before.

The Times falsely called Soleimani “the prime mover behind proxy wars that have fueled instability in the Middle East.”

The self-styled newspaper of record ignored US responsibility for waging them preemptively against nonbelligerent nations threatening no one — its actions constituting the highest of high crimes, all others paling in comparison.

The Times: “Some Iranian officials (sic) called the American strike on General Suleimani an act of war.”

Fact: The Iranian nation, its millions of people, international and US constitutional law call attacks on the territory of one nation by another a war crime. So do everyone everywhere supporting the rule of law.

The Times: Soleimani was “designated as a terrorist by the United States and Israel (sic).”

Fact: The US, NATO, Israel, and their rogue allies repeatedly and consistently blame victims for high crimes committed against them — what neither the Times or other establishment media explain.

The Times: “American officials have previously blamed General Suleimani for killing hundreds of Americans in the Iraq war by providing Iraqi insurgents with bomb-making equipment and training (sic).”

“They say he was the architect of destabilizing Iranian activities throughout the region aimed at the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia (sic).”

Fact: What they “say,” repeat, and establishment media regurgitate are malicious Big Lies about a widely revered military commander in Iran, the region, and elsewhere.

The Times quoted Trump’s Big Lie claim about assassinating Soleimani “to stop a war,” not start one — his action an act of war on two sovereign states (Iran and Iraq), uniting their lawmakers and populations in anti-US fury.

Going all-out to vilify Soleimani, the Times made the following false accusations:

“Soleimani changed the shape of the Syrian civil war (sic) and tightened Iran’s grip on Iraq (sic).”

Fact: There’s nothing remotely “civil” about US aggression in Syria — in cahoots with its imperial partners and terrorist foot soldiers.

Fact: Iran seeks cooperative relations with other nations within and outside the Middle East — domination over none, polar opposite how the US, NATO and Israel operate.

The Times: Soleimani “was behind hundreds of American deaths in Iraq and waves of militia attacks against Israel (sic).

Fact: The above claim repeats the falsified US/Israeli narrative, Big Lies supported by the self-styled newspaper of record.

The Times: Soleimani was “a clandestine force behind an Iranian campaign of international terrorism…”

Fact: No such Iranian campaign exists, how the US and its rogue allies, not Tehran ever throughout its 40-year history, no evidence suggesting otherwise.

The Times: Soleimani and his Hezbollah counterpart conducted “a sophisticated campaign of guerrilla warfare, combining ambushes, roadside bombs, suicide bombers, targeted killings of senior Israeli officers and attacks on Israeli defense posts (sic).”

Fact: No such Iranian/Hezbollah “campaign” existed earlier or now. Iran and Hezbollah engage in defensive action, not aggression like the US, NATO and Israel.

The Times quoted former Mossad head Tamir Pardo, falsely accusing Soleimani of involvement in “a secret operational organization whose main purpose is terrorism (sic).”

Fact: Terrorism is how Mossad, the CIA, Britain’s MI6, and their imperial counterparts operate, not Iran or its officials.

Soleimani was a public figure, operating overtly, his whereabouts not hidden — assassinated on a diplomatic mission for peace to Iraq.

If he was so dangerous to the West since involvement in US-orchestrated Iraqi aggression against Iran in the 1980s, why was nothing done to eliminate him earlier?

He threatened no one other than the scourge of US-supported terrorism and the curse of US imperial mass slaughter and destruction in the region.

Trump elevated him to martyr status, making him larger in death than when alive.

Tens of millions of Iranians and others in the region mourn his loss.

Besides his lawless actions, Trump’s arrogance, impudence, and stupidly managed to create countless millions of US haters.

His recklessness is polar opposite what strategic diplomacy is all about, making enemies, incrementally distancing allies, weakening the US — contributing to its inevitable decline.
