Anti-Syria Propaganda War Won’t Quit

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Syria, its legitimate government, heroic military forces, and long-suffering people are the aggrieved — the US, its imperial partners, and jihadist foot soldiers the aggressors.

Establishment media pretend it’s the other way around, blaming victims for US-led high crimes against them.

The NYT never met a US war of aggression it didn’t wholeheartedly endorse and cheerlead.

Its pro-war propaganda reports make the broadsheet complicit in high crimes of war and against humanity — and not just in Syria, in all US wars of aggression against nations threatening no one.

In its latest edition, the Times was over-the-top claiming casualties suffered by Turkish forces in Syria’s Idlib province risks “direct conflict between Russia and Turkey…”

Despite strained relations over differences in Syria, both countries are allies, neither wanting conflict with the other — why Turkey’s Erdogan wants to meet with Putin together with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in Istanbul on March 5 to discuss the situation in Syria.

Russia’s president has no plans to attend unless Erdogan ends Turkish aggression in Syria and stops supporting jihadists.

With Russia and Syria controlling airspace over Idlib and surrounding areas, a large-scale Turkish ground offensive would be foolhardy, its forces sitting ducks for aerial attacks.

Reality on the ground and eagerness to preserve good relations with Russia, his most valued ally, may bring Erdogan around to realize he’s waging a losing battle and back off.

Anti-government jihadists in Idlib are armed with US, other Western, and Turkish weapons, Turkish forces providing them with artillery and other support.

Instead of explaining the above and other vital information about endless US war in Syria, the Times and other establishment media suppress it.

Notably they’re silent about Syria’s liberating struggle against US, NATO, Turkish, Israeli aggression.

Syria belongs to Syrians, not to foreign occupiers USA and Turkey, illegally operating in the country, not a word from the Times about reality on the ground, featuring mass deception with comments like the following:

“Turkey has long supported opposition forces in Syria’s nine-year civil war against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.”

“Mr. Assad, backed by Russia and Iran, has largely defeated the uprising, at a cost of hundreds of thousands of lives and the creation of millions of refugees.”

“His government, backed by Russian warplanes, is fighting in Idlib to retake the country’s last rebel-held province.”

“In the past three months, the intensified fighting there has driven nearly a million people from their homes, creating a humanitarian crisis on Turkey’s border.”

Fact: Syria is Obama’s war escalated by Trump — US aggression against a sovereign state threatening no one, not “civil war,” what the Times and other establishment media consistently lie about.

Fact: So-called “opposition forces” and “rebels” are cutthroat killer ISIS, al-Nusra, and likeminded jihadists, largely imported from scores of foreign countries.

Fact: Legitimate political opposition in Syria is nonbelligerent, supporting the government’s liberating struggle, not combatting it.

Fact: Fighting in Idlib since government forces launched a liberating offensive in December, greatly aided by Russian airpower, did not displace “nearly a million people from their homes” as the pro-Western UN, Times and other establishment media falsely claimed.

Russian satellite imagery exposed their Big Lie. Syrians liberated from captivity at the hands of jihadists in Idlib and other areas returned to their homes in government-held areas, supplied with humanitarian aid.

Erdogan’s proposed “safe zone” in northern Syria has nothing to do with helping Syrian civilians, everything to do with his revanchist aims, wanting northern Syrian territory annexed, especially its oil-producing areas.

The Times: “Russia has been conducting a blistering air campaign across the province, bombing hospitals, schools and residential buildings, killing at least 300 people in three months” — a bald-faced Big Lie.

Terror-bombing is a US, NATO, Israeli speciality, not how Russian and Syrian aerial operations are conducted. The Times and other establishment media consistently lie claiming otherwise.

The Times: US troops “in northeastern and southern Syria…are to prevent the Islamic State from returning there and to guard Syrian oil fields.”

Fact: US forces occupy Syrian territory illegally, supporting ISIS and other jihadists, not combatting them, stealing Syrian oil, not guarding it.

The Times is a lying machine, supporting US aggression in all its war theaters — opposing liberating struggles in all countries the US preemptively attacked without just cause.

That’s what the scourge of imperialism is all about — the scourge of propaganda supporting it as well.
