US-led Western COVID-19 Propaganda War
Both right wings of the US war party and their press agent media never miss a chance to bash Russia, China, and other nations targeted by imperial Washington for regime change.
Any pretext will do. None exist so they’re invented. COVID-19 created new opportunities to exploit.
Last week, Russia’s Foreign Ministry slammed the Trump regime for falsely accusing the Kremlin of promoting COVID-19 fake news, ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova saying the following:
“We are curiously watching the attempts by several American media, as well as by some high-ranking officials to blame Russia for conducting a certain pandemic-related disinformation campaign against the US” — despite nothing of the sort going on, no evidence suggesting it, Zakharova adding:
“We’ve reached out to the State Department, requesting to provide us with some factual evidence of such statements.”
“We have not received any coherent explanation of such allegations, not to mention any evidence.”
Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) called phony US accusations against other nations a “distract(ion) from (Trump regime) COVID-19 failures,” adding:
It “found it opportune to reignite the ‘Fake News’ scare, censuring (its) foes,” notably Russia and China.
The NYT turned truth on its head, falsely claiming Russia and China aim to “sow doubts about the United States’ handling of the crisis and deflect attention from their own struggles with the pandemic.”
No evidence was cited backing the claim because none exists. Yet the Times falsely claimed that Russia and China “see openings…to undermine the” US.
Both countries shipped ventilators, masks, gowns, gloves, and other medical supplies to the US, more likely coming if requested.
Establishment media called it a propaganda ploy, a win for the Kremlin, citing State Department sources, their way to divert attention from Trump regime failings.
The US knew of the viral threat for years but did little or nothing to prepare for outbreaks.
Blame game maligning begins at home. Responsibility for lack of preparedness lies with Trump regime hardliners and their predecessors.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) slammed anti-China COVID-19 propaganda by US officials and media, saying:
“Their stereotypical framing of China’s actions against the pandemic verges on parody and caricature, portraying even innocent and uncontroversial measures in the most insidious light possible,” adding:
“China can do nothing right. It’s either incompetent or evil.” Hard-hit Wuhan in Hubei province was initially accused of doing nothing and letting people die.
When draconian lockdown was sustained for around two months and deaths declined sharply, Beijing was accused of lying.
According to FAIR.org, when ordinary Chinese citizens volunteered to help prevent outbreaks from spreading, the NYT called them “neighborhood busybodies (involved in) Mao-style mass crusades.”
When Hubei officials were sacked for withholding information on outbreaks, CNN called them “purged.”
When the US and its imperial allies criticized Beijing’s response to COVID-19, they claimed official incompetence, malfeasance, or both.
When some governments and independent scientists praised Beijing’s efforts, they were accused of being bribed or operating as “communist” sympathizers.
While combatting COVID-19 outbreaks, China was falsely accused of hoarding medical supplies and equipment.
When COVID-19 aid was sent to other countries, it was called Beijing propaganda — Russia and Cuba falsely accused the same way.
China’s Global Times debunked US-led Western COVID-19 related Big Lies, ignoring Beijing’s success in combatting outbreaks, citing the following Western disinformation:
US-led Western officials and media accused China of suppressing numbers of COVID-19 outbreaks and deaths — no evidence presented because none exists.
Beijing was falsely accused of misleading the world on this issue. No evidence suggests the virus originated in China.
Most likely it came from the US. Trump falsely calling it the “Wuhan virus” is one of his many Big Lies — so many daily it shows he’s no longer able to distinguish between truth and fiction, proof positive he can never be trusted.
US officials have a long history of blaming others for their high crimes and failings, Trump more egregious about it by repetition than any of his predecessors.
Phony US claims that China should be held accountable for spreading COVID-19 outbreaks aim to divert attention from how Trump and hardliners surrounding him mishandled things.
The International Council of Jurists and All India Bar Association seek compensation from China for COVID-19 outbreaks — falsely accusing Beijing of “developing a biological weapon capable of mass destruction.”
Similar US and UK claims were made, not a shred of evidence backing accusations.
With its own outbreaks largely contained for now at least, China is exporting medical supplies and equipment to scores of countries worldwide, aiding them combat COVID-19.
Instead of expressing thanks, Western officials and media are bombarding China with false accusations, citing a campaign to buy influence and other opportunistic motives — again no evidence supplied because none exists.
China’s civilization has been around for thousands of years, the US for a few hundred.
Beijing leads world efforts in combatting COVID-19 at home and abroad, the latter by exporting supplies and equipment to contain and treat the virus.
The US focuses on advancing its imperium and serving its privileged class — at the expense of world peace, equity, justice, and the rule of law, principles it long ago abandoned in pursuit of unchallenged power.
