Amnesty International’s Reinvented US War on Syria History

Amnesty International’s Reinvented US War on Syria History

by Stephen Lendman ( – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Time and again, AI operates more as a US imperial accomplice than an advocate for “preventing and ending grave (human rights) abuses” — impartiality not its long suit.

Throughout years of US-led aggression in Syria, using jihadists as proxy troops, supported by Pentagon terror-bombing, AI produced propaganda reports, suppressing truth and full disclosure about the war.

Now in its 9th year, there’s no resolution in prospect because US dark forces in cahoots with NATO and Israel reject restoration of peace and stability to the war-torn country, wanting it transformed into a US client state, enabling Israel to steal more of its territory.

In what AI called an overview of the war, it falsely accused “government and allied forces (notably Russia) (of) carry(ing) out indiscriminate attacks and direct attacks on civilians and civilian objects using aerial and artillery bombing, killing and injuring hundreds of people in Idlib and Hama in northwest Syria (sic),” adding:

“Government forces continued restricting access to humanitarian and medical aid to civilians living in government-controlled areas (sic).”

“Security forces arbitrarily arrested civilians and former fighters who had reconciled with the government and continued to detain tens of thousands of people, including peaceful activists, humanitarian workers, lawyers and journalists, subjecting many to enforced disappearance and torture or other ill-treatment, and causing deaths in detention (sic).”

The above disinformation reads like a State Department fake news press release, AI operating as an imperial agent — notably by falsely blaming Syria and Russia for US-orchestrated war crimes on the country and its people.

A newly released AI report reinvented Syria war history from December 2019 to March 2020.

Once again, it reinvented facts on the ground, falsely accusing Syrian and Russian forces of “subject(ing) civilians in opposition-held areas in north-west Syria to a new wave of horrors.”

The undefined “opposition” is comprised of heavily armed US supported cutthroat killer jihadists, including ISIS, al-Nusra, and likeminded groups — mostly imported from scores of regional and other countries.

Government forces, greatly aided by Russian airpower, continue their campaign to liberate Syrian territory and civilians from the scourge of US/NATO/Turkish/Israeli supported terrorists.

These elements, not civilians, are targeted by government and Russian aerial and ground attacks.

AI pretends otherwise, citing sources connected to jihadists like the White Helmets, a  Western funded gangster organization, operating in cahoots with mercenary killers.

AI falsely claimed large-scale displacement of towns and villages in Idlib and Aleppo provinces occurred from attacks by Syrian and Russian forces — creating an “unprecedented…humanitarian emergency,” adding:

“Cornered, and with nowhere left to go, civilians flooded already overstretched displacement camps, pitched tents in farms and schools, or ended up in the open in brutal weather.”

“A strained humanitarian community struggled to meet overwhelming needs.”

According to Russia’s reconciliation center in Syria, no large-scale exodus occurred from the country’s northwest as falsely claimed by the UN, establishment media, and AI — no satellite imagery showing it.

Tens of thousands of liberated Syrians continue returning to their home areas, aided by Russian and Damacus supplied humanitarian aid — what’s never explained by Western regimes, their establishment media press agents or AI.

UN and Western humanitarian aid is supplied only to jihadist-controlled areas, seized by these elements for their own use.

AI admitted that its findings were compiled “remote(ly),” failing to explain its unreliable sources — connected to anti-government terrorists.

It referred to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, al-Qaeda with a new name, as “the largest coalition of armed groups in northwest Syria” — failing to explain they’re cold-blooded jihadist killers, used as US proxy troops.

They and Pentagon terror-bombing are responsible for attacks on residential communities and Syrian infrastructure — not government or Russian forces.

AI pretended otherwise as it’s done throughout much of the war, falsely blaming Syrian and Russian forces for high crimes committed by US supported jihadists.

AI lied claiming evidence (that doesn’t exist) shows that “attacks by Syrian and Russian government forces entailed a myriad of serious violations of international humanitarian law (sic),” adding:

“(T)he attacks were not directed at a specific military object, and they violated the immunity from direct attack of civilians and civilian objects, as well as the special protection afforded to specific persons and objects, particularly medical facilities, medical personnel and children (sic).”

“These violations amount to war crimes. The attacks must also be viewed in the context of the well-established pattern of Syrian government forces targeting civilian infrastructure and civilians in areas under the control of armed opposition groups as part of a widespread and systematic attack on the civilian population, therefore constituting crimes against humanity (sic).”

The above disinformation turns reality on its head, falsely blaming Syrian and Russian liberating forces for high crimes committed by the US and its jihadist proxies.

AI’s report and others like it on Syria show the organization operates as an imperial tool — more concerned about its funding sources and publicity than human rights and truth-telling.

Instead of laying blame where it belongs, AI supports US aggression in Syria, falsely demonizing government and Russian forces, ignoring their liberating struggle.
