Latest Anti-China Trump Regime Actions
Trump, Pompeo, and other regime hardliners exceeded the extremism of their predecessors in waging war on China (and other countries) by other means.
If Biden/Harris succeed him in January, what’s most likely, will they match or exceed his unacceptable actions toward China?
Are bilateral relations too fractured to repair?
Might US war by other means turn hot by accident or design?
Along with the Middle East and areas bordering Russia, the South China Sea is a major potential world flashpoint.
On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order that bans US private investments in Chinese firms with alleged ties to its military.
To date, the Trump regime designated 31 Chinese firms as off-limits to US investors.
Effective January 11, the new EO prohibits purchases of securities linked to these companies.
US investors in these companies have until November 11, 2021 to divest.
According to Trump regime disinformation, “China is increasingly exploiting United States capital (sic) to resource and to enable the development and modernization of its military, intelligence, and other security apparatuses.”
Trump’s EO doesn’t specify penalties for violations.
It authorizes the Treasury Department to invoke powers granted by the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) that includes imposition of tough sanctions.
In response to the unacceptable action, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said the following:
“The US government, out of political motives, has been stigmatizing and discrediting China’s policy of military-civilian integration.”
“Its state power has been abused to repress Chinese enterprises without cause.”
“This seriously violates the principle of market competition and international economic and trade rules, and seriously disrupts the normal economic, trade and investment cooperation between China and the US.”
“This will not only severely damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, but also the interests of investors all over the world, including US investors.”
“China urges the US side to correctly view China’s policy of military-civilian integration, stop its wrong practice of arbitrarily repressing certain Chinese companies under the pretext of national security, and reverse its erroneous decision.”
“We will resolutely safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.”
Separately on Thursday, Pompeo tried to reinvent history.
On January 1, 1979, the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations agreed to by Jimmy Carter and Deng Xiaoping formally established bilateral relations, ending official recognition of Taiwan, announced by Carter in December 1978.
The (1992 Consensus) one China principle affirms US recognition of one China comprised of the mainland and Taiwan.
Yet on Thursday, Pompeo defiantly said Taiwan “has not been a part of China (sic).”
Wang Wenbin responded sharply to the latest in a long line of anti-China insults by Pompeo, saying:
“There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.”
“The Central People’s Government of the PRC is the sole legitimate government representing China.”
“This is an objective fact and a basic norm governing international relations.”
“Taiwan was once occupied by Japan, but the 1943 Cairo Declaration and the 1945 Potsdam Declaration clearly stipulate that the Chinese territory occupied by Japan, like Taiwan, shall be returned to China. Resolution 2758 adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1971 also reaffirmed the one-China principle.”
“It is based on the one-China principle that China has formally established diplomatic ties with 180 countries worldwide.”
“The one-China principle is the political underpinning of China-US relations.”
“As per the 1979 Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America, the United States recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China.”
“This serves as the basis for China and the US to recognize each other and to establish diplomatic relations.”
“Within this context, the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan.””
“For Pompeo, compared with his own political interests, the fundamental interests of the Chinese and American people are just nothing.”
“He is only interested in making up one lie after another to confound right and wrong, confuse the public, and torpedo China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”
“His ugly and malicious intentions have been laid bare for all to despise.”
“Pompeo should know that China will resolutely fight back against all attempts that undermine China’s core interests and interfere in China’s internal affairs.”
“Nothing will stop the historical trend of China’s reunification.”
“We urge the US to strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, stop any form of official contacts and military links with Taiwan, stop doing or saying anything detrimental to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and China-US relations, and promptly halt its steps down the wrong and dangerous path.”
Commenting on the above two issues, China’s Global Times said the Trump regime “will go into its ‘final madness’ against China.”
It’ll be part of its disgraced geopolitical legacy.
“The one-China principle is one of the cornerstones of China-US relations.”
Failure to observe it risks breaching Sino/US relations altogether.
As things now stand, Trump has little more than two months remaining in office.
If actions like the above continue without letup to the end, he’ll be remembered more as a geopolitical wrecking ball on the world stage than already.
On Friday, China’s official People’s Daily broadsheet accused the Trump regime of “falsely claim(ing) that Russia and China were constantly developing nuclear weapons, thus seriously threatening international peace and security,” along with other Big Lies, adding:
“(T)he US (is) playing its old trick of ‘a thief crying ‘Stop thief! ’ ”
Both wings of the US war party are rogue actors on the world stage.
Biden/Harris may be more hostile to world peace, stability, and relations with nations free from US control than Trump and hardliners surrounding him.
