NYT Disinformation About Assassination of Iranian Nuclear Scientist

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The Times one-sidedly supports Israel, most often ignoring its high crimes against Palestinians and cross-border.

The self-styled newspaper of record supports all US wars by hot and other means — against invented enemies, never acknowledging that none exist so they’re invented.

Throughout Islamic Republic history, the Times — and other establishment media — have been militantly hostile toward the country, supporting unlawful US/Israeli destabilizing actions.

Reporting on what appears to have been Israeli Mossad responsibility for assassinating prominent Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Times disinformation about him followed.

According to the IAEA and annual US National Intelligence Estimates, no evidence suggests Iranian efforts to develop and produce nuclear weapons.

Its legitimate nuclear program has no military component.

Not according to Times disinformation, falsely saying the following:

“Iran’s top nuclear scientist (Fakhrizadeh), long identified by American and Israeli intelligence as the guiding figure behind a covert effort to design an atomic warhead (sic), was shot and killed Friday in what Iranian media called a roadside ambush,” adding:

“Fakhrizadeh was the driving force behind what American and Israel officials describe as Iran’s secretive nuclear weapons program (sic).”

“(H)e ran (Iranian) efforts to tackle the most difficult problems bomb designers face in creating a warhead small enough to fit atop a missile and make it survive the rigors of re-entry into the atmosphere (sic).”

The Times cited a Netanyahu fake news claim about a nonexistent Iranian nuclear weapons program called Project Amad – to “design, produce and test 5 warheads, each of 10 kilotons TNT yield for integration on a missile (sic).”

Netanyahu turned truth on its head, falsely claiming Iran built a “secret (underground) atomic warehouse” for developing nuclear cores and implosion systems (sic).

Instead of debunking the fake news responsibly, the Times went along with the ruse earlier and now.

No evidence ever affirmed any fabricated accusations against Iran — by Netanyahu or other regime officials, including about Fakhrizadeh.

The Israeli regime invented Project Amad and falsely accused Fakhrizadeh of heading it.

His assassination was a likely plot by Netanyahu and likeminded Israeli hardliners to provoke Iranian retaliation in hopes of getting the US involved in war on the country.

It likely also aimed to prevent return of the US to the JCPOA, hoping to kill it altogether.

It wasn’t an attempt to halt or disrupt Iran’s nuclear program — what the US, Israel, IAEA, and world community know is entirely legitimate.

Claims otherwise — pushed by the Times and other establishment media — aim to maintain a drumbeat of anti-Iran propaganda, hyping the nonexistent threat of an Iranian bomb.

Citing unnamed US officials, the Times said “Israel was behind the attack” that killed Fakhrizadeh, adding:

“Israel considers (Iran) its most potent threat (sic).”

Iranian independence stands in the way of US/Israeli regional hegemonic aims.

It’s well known that the Islamic Republic threatens no other nations. Claims otherwise are fabricated.

If Israel’s Mossad was responsible for Fakhrizadeh’s assassination — what’s most likely — Trump regime hardliners perhaps knew about the plot and OK’d it.

Whenever Iran and/or the Jewish state are discussed by the Times and other establishment media, nary a word is said about nuclear armed and dangerous Israel.

Nor is anything reported about its chemical, biological and other banned weapons.

An invented Iranian threat is featured time and again while a real US/NATO/Israeli one goes unmentioned.
