Trump Regime Plotting Pretext for War on Iran?
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Since Iran’s 1979 revolution that ended a generation of US-installed fascist tyranny, Dems and Republicans waged all-out war on the country — by other means alone.
No US regime attacked Iranian territory — other than by cyberwar, propaganda war, assassinations, and other dirty tricks, alone or in cahoots with Israel.
Throughout his time in office nearly over, Trump waged war by other means on China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and other nations free from US control.
Unlike the Obama/Biden, Bush/Cheney, and other US regimes, Trump never attacked the territory of another nation militarily.
With days alone remaining before returning to private life, will he go where he never went before?
Will he launch hot war on Iran, a nation able hit back hard against aggressors?
Taking this step at any time would recklessly risk embroiling the Middle East more greatly in conflict than any time since Operation Torch during WW II by allied forces against Nazi Germany — the North African campaign from June 1940 — May 1943.
The chance of Trump attacking Iran militarily before January 20 is virtually nil.
What’s possible is highly unlikely. What purpose would it serve other than making the US more a pariah state than already?
Does Trump want more blood on his hands than already?
Does he want naked aggression on nonbelligerent Iran threatening no one to be his defining/lawless foreign policy action — in the waning days of his tenure nearly over?
Is this how he wants it ended — with a bang heard round the world to have unpredictable, potentially longterm, negative consequences?
I think not!
Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif believes otherwise, tweeting the following on New Year’s eve:
Trump is plotting a “pretext for war” on Iran.
He “waste(d) billions (of dollars by) fly(ing) (nuclear capable) B52s & send(ing) armadas to OUR regime.”
“Iran doesn’t seek war but will OPENLY & DIRECTLY defend its people, security & vital interests.”
Saber-rattling is longstanding US policy against all its invented adversaries threatening no one.
They include all nations on its target list for regime change for not bowing to a higher power in Washington.
Warplanes of all shapes, sizes and capabilities, surface and subsurface warships, and heavily armed ground forces are deployed worldwide — notably in the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific, and near Russia’s borders.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, two B-52 bombers carried out a 30-hour mission from Minot AFB, North Dakota to the Middle East and return.
A statement by CENTCOM commander General Frank McKenzie said the following:
“The United States continues to deploy combat-ready capabilities into the US Central Command area of responsibility to deter any potential adversary (sic), and make clear that we are ready and able to respond to any aggression directed at Americans or our interests (sic).
“We do not seek conflict (sic), but no one should underestimate our ability to defend our forces or to act decisively in response to any attack.”
Fact: No US enemies existed since WW II ended.
Fact: Designated ones are invented, not real.
Fact: This action unjustifiably justifies US wars on humanity by hot and other means.
Fact: Virtually all claims by US political and military officials about invented enemies and adversaries are fabricated. They fail the smell test.
Fact: The US spends more on militarism, belligerence, the Pentagon’s global empire of bases, and so-called homeland security —along with black budgets, related intelligence, and other actions — than all other nations combined.
It pours countless trillions of dollars down a black hole of waste, fraud and abuse.
All of the above is at a time when NO foreign threats to US national security exist.
So they have to be invented to justify what’s recklessly unjustifiable.
The latest B-52 saber-rattling mission to the Middle East was the third one in the past 45 days.
More of the same is virtually sure to follow — notably after Biden/Harris replace Trump.
Undemocratic Dems are notoriously more belligerent than Republicans.
The Obama/Biden regime — both figures unindicted war criminals multiple times over — bragged about terror-bombing seven (nonthreatening) nations in eight years.
Sunday, January 3, is the anniversary of Trump’s 2020 cold-blooded assassination of freedom-fighting/widely revered throughout the region Iranian Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani.
He, deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Hashed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and others were martyred along with him.
On November 27, Israel murdered eminent Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh — a high crime surely agreed to by Trump regime hardliners.
Both belligerent states operate in cahoots with each other in waging ending war on humanity — accountability never forthcoming.
In late December, Iran warned Israel against crossing regional “red lines” during Trump’s remaining time in office.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said his government will strongly defend against any military “adventure” that threatens its security.
The same warning applies to Trump and hardliners surrounding him, Khatibzadeh adding:
“Everyone knows (Iran’s policies) regarding…national security.”
“Everyone knows very well how high the risk is raised if the red lines of Iran are crossed.”
Israel reportedly sent a nuclear-armed submarine through the Suez Canal to the Persian Gulf — a highly provocative action.
Like B-52 bomber missions to the Gulf, Iran considers Israeli saber-rattling unacceptable.
Trump’s failed “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran greatly heightened regional tensions.
When Biden/Harris take over from Trump this month, US war on Iran by other means won’t miss a beat — short of hot war that’s highly unlikely by the US outgoing or incoming regime.
