Israel’s Undeclared War on Syria Rages

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Israel terror-bombs Syria at its discretion.

Ignored by the world community and world body, its cross-border aggression from occupied Golan or Lebanese airspace occurred hundreds of times in recent years.

The latest episode this week on Deir Ezzor and surrounding areas was aided and abetted by Trump regime intelligence.

An unnamed US intelligence source falsely claimed that strikes this week targeted Iran’s military presence in Eastern Syria on Tuesday.

Iranian military advisors in the country help its government and commanders combat aggression by the US and its jihadist proxy fighters.

The US source also claimed that a Syrian warehouse struck was in an area used as a “pipeline for components that support Iran’s (alleged nuclear weapons program)” that doesn’t exist.

The anonymous source added that Pompeo and Israeli Mossad chief Yossi Cohen jointly planned Tuesday’s aggression in Washington days earlier.

Tuesday’s terror-bombing aggression occurred for the fourth time this month alone.

The strikes came after Israeli war minister Benny Gantz said the Netanyahu regime will continue terror-bombing Syria sites without letup as it’s done throughout most of the Obama/Biden’s launched aggression on the country since March 2011, adding:

“We aren’t sitting around and waiting (sic). We’re active defensively, politically, and economically (sic).”

There’s nothing remotely “defensive” about naked aggression against a nonthreatening neighboring state.

According to Lebanon’s Al Mayadeem television, one Syrian soldier was killed in the attacks, 14 others injured.

US direct and proxy aggression on Syria will surely continue after Biden/Harris replace Trump next week.

According to an Iranian military advisor in Syria, Israeli airstrikes this week did not target their eastern Syrian locations, striking the country’s military forces instead, a statement saying:

“Despite Western media (reports, Iranian) sites (in Syria) were not targeted, and no Afghani fighter was killed during this Zionist raid.”

The pro-imperial/anti-Syria London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOAR) falsely claimed that “least 57 people, including 11 Iranian fighters” were killed on Tuesday.

SOAR reports rubbish fed it by US and UK imperial sources.

Far from Syrian territory with no firsthand knowledge of daily fighting, it reports pro-Western propaganda to be taken with a grain of salt.

An Iranian source on the ground said the following:

“The Zionist fighters targeted, in their recent air raid, sites of the Syrian army on the road between Deir Ezzor and Albukamal, which led to the death of a number of Syrian army officers.”

He pointed out that “the Zionist (regime) and media supporting it publish(ed) these news and prepar(ed) the ground for the continuation of these attacks.”

“(T)hey are spreading fear and terror in the leadership of the resistance front and its fighters, and they know that the continuation of this approach will make them more vulnerable to demise at the hands of the Islamic Resistance Front.”

According to a Syrian army source, claims about Iranian casualties in the country are false “rumors spread by opposition” elements.

The source added that Iraqis in Syria aiding its liberating struggle suffered a number of casualties, with no further elaboration.

AMN News also reported that the Trump regime sanctioned an Iranian pharmaceutical company involved in developing a covid vaccine — part of its war by other means on the Islamic Republic that’s unlikely to ease when Biden/Harris replace Trump.

On Wednesday, Southfront reported that rocket fire by Al-Qaeda-linked elements in Syria (armed with US, Western, Israeli and Turkish weapons) killed or wounded several Syrian soldiers, adding:

The alleged casualties are not verified.

The incident “represents a blatant violation of the Russian-Turkish agreement on Greater Idlib, which was signed on March 5 of 2020.”

“Several Turkish-backed groups” were involved in what happened.

In March, US-launched aggression in Syria will enter its 11th year with no prospect for resolution any time soon.
