Straight Talk from Russian Foreign Policy Expert

Straight Talk from Russian Foreign Policy Expert

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Russian upper house Federation Council Senator Aleksey Pushkov formerly headed its foreign affairs committee.

Days earlier he said the following:

Along with falsely criticizing Trump for making concessions to Russia, Biden discovered that “potential (US) hostility towards Moscow (was) mobilized by (his predecessor), bilaterally and through NATO.”

Looking ahead, Pushkov believes that Biden regime hardliners have three ways to be tough on Russia.

1. “Sanctions from hell,” including on US and European business interests if don’t cease dealings with Moscow — an agenda similar to US actions against Iran.

At the same time, he noted that “Russia is not Iran.” Along with China, it can punish the US severely if its policymakers push things too far, especially militarily.

2. Push colonized Ukraine to escalate full-scale war on Donbass along Russia’s border.

Because of the country’s political and military weakness, Pushkov believes “it is not in the US plans to interfere in hostilities on the side of Ukraine.”

3. Deploy Pentagon forces near Russia’s borders “and in the Black Sea.”

If this step is taken, it’ll continue an approach followed by Trump, Pushkov explained, adding:

With the above options in mind, “Biden’s toughness on Russia has so far been largely rhetorical.”

“There will be anti-Russian actions, but their aim will be a prolonged siege of ‘Putin’s Russia’ rather than a set of abrupt and risky steps that could bring the situation to the brink of military conflict.”

Last year, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said throughout 2020, US-dominated NATO’s air and naval presence near Russia’s borders “increased significantly.”

Continuation of this saber-rattling policy risks possible “serious incidents.”

“These actions (have been) openly provocative. (I)ncidents were avoided thanks to the high level of professional training of Russian pilots and sailors.”

Separately, US and UK destroyers provocatively entered Russian territorial waters, a hostile action.

In November 2020, in response to the USS John McCain’s incursion into Russian territorial waters, its navy threatened to ram the warship if it didn’t leave territory where it doesn’t belong.

Fomin stressed that Moscow is “prepared for a professional and constructive dialogue on the condition of observance of principles of mutual respect and each other’s interests.”

The US, NATO and their imperial partners operate by their own hostile to peace and stability rules.

Last week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed concern about possible US “cybercrime” against Russia.

If occurs, it’ll “definitely (be) of great concern to us,” he stressed, adding:

Moscow “never had anything to do with the cyber crimes and cyber-terrorism it is being (falsely) accused of.”

According to US media reports, the Biden regime intends tough actions to be evident to Vladimir Putin, Russian intelligence and military in the coming weeks.

US war on Russia by other means already escalated on Biden’s watch.

Much more of the same appears virtually certain ahead.

The US operates in similar fashion against all nations free from its control — a counterproductive policy by a nation in decline.

Like other empires in history, longstanding US arrogance is self-defeating.

Over time, it’s weakening while China, Russia and other nations are rising, world leadership passing to them in the years ahead.
