Russia Slams Politicized Anti-Syria UN Resolution

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

On March 3, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that’s further proof of how US dark forces — in cahoots with their imperial partners — use the world body and OPCW as political tools to serve its diabolical interests.

Russia, China and Syria opposed what no nations should have supported.

According to a UN press release, the measure “took note of the decision of the OPCW Executive Council on 9 July 2020 titled ‘Addressing the possession and use of chemical weapons by the Syrian Arab Republic’ and welcomed its transmission to the Security Council and the Assembly.”

Ignored was Syria’s elimination of its CWs, affirmed years earlier by the OPCW when completed.

No credible evidence suggests that Damascus maintains an illicit CW stockpile.

No Syrian violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) occurred throughout a decade of US aggression on the nation and its people.

When real or fake CW incidents occur, they’re staged by Western-supported White Helmets in cahoots with US proxy jihadists.

Yet time and again, Syria is falsely blamed for what it had nothing to do with.

Aided by Russian support, Syrian forces continue going all-out to liberate the country and its long-suffering people.

Damascus slammed the UNGA resolution, calling it a politicized/biased draft.

It’s part of US-led NATO and Israeli war on the country by hot and other means.

Russia’s First Deputy UN envoy Dmitry Polyanskiy also criticized the document’s unfairness, saying:

It’s “another attempt to bring up to the attention of the General Assembly a highly politicized and misbalanced document capable of exacerbating discords between the member states rather than promoting cooperation between the UN and the OPCW.”

“Every day we see more and more evidence that the US and its (EU) allies seek to turn the OPCW into a tool for promoting their geopolitical interests.”

Unacceptable demands are made for Bashar al-Assad’s government to declare CWs it doesn’t have.

Russia has volumes of indisputable damning evidence about OPCW complicity with US imperial interests.

US dark forces use the organization and world as tools for advancing its diabolical interests in Syria and elsewhere.

The so-called chemical watchdog group long ago lost credibility. It can no longer be trusted to fulfill its CWC mandate.

It prioritizes politicized Syria bashing based on Big Lies and mass deception.

The unacceptable resolution adopted by the UNGA had only one goal — “besmirch(ing) (Syria unjustifiably) and promot(ing) ideas that damage the CWC integrity and the OPCW authority,” Polyanskiy stressed adding:

“As a responsible party to the CWC…the Russian Federation (rejected) this politicized document.”
