The JCPOA: It’s Alive, Not Dead, but Dying

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Hardliners in charge of Biden regime adventurism on the world stage have no intention of softening US policy toward Iran, no intention of returning to the JCPOA in its original form — as affirmed by Security Council Res. 2231.

Pretending otherwise is subterfuge. On all things Iran, Biden regime hardliners are no different from Pompeo-led predecessors.

Maximum pressure on Iran remains in place. On Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani minced no words, saying the following:

“The Americans lie when they say a return to their commitments and the lifting of the sanctions will take 2 to 3 months.”

“It can be done with” a stoke of the pen by Biden or his impersonator, my comment, not Rouhani’s.

He said sanctions can be “lift(ed) (by) decree…in one hour,” adding:

“All it needs is the will to do so, and if there is a serious resolve, the US can return to all its obligations in a single day, and we can also return to all our commitments.”

No serious resolve exists among members of interventionist Blinken-led Biden regime hardliners.

Rouhani correctly stressed that “slogans and interviews will not work.”

“The Americans must act” — what Blinken and others have no intention of doing.

In office over two months, they’ve done nothing to reverse hardline Trump regime policies toward Iran.

It clearly shows that they intend continuing all-out US war on the Islamic Republic by other means.

On Wednesday, Blinken’s press secretary Price said “our current Iran-related sanctions remain in effect,” adding:

“We will address any efforts at sanction evasion. Of course, our policy when it comes to sanctions has not changed.”

Left unsaid is whether Biden regime hardliners are seeking a pretext to turn things hot.

They’re pushing the envelope in similar fashion against China and Russia.

In response to the State Department’s fake news report about human rights in China, its Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the following:

“Accusing China of ‘genocide’ is the biggest lie of all that rides roughshod over international law” — by a nation the notoriously tramples on the rule of law worldwide.

“The US, based on lies and disinformation…wantonly asserted that there is genocide in Xinjiang.”

“This is the most preposterous lie of the century, an outrageous insult and affront to the Chinese people, and a gross breach of international law and basic norms governing international relations.”

The same goes for US Big Lies and mass deception about Iran, Russia, and other nations free from its imperial control.

Based on its unbridled hostility toward Iran, Rouhani called the Trump regime the “most vicious” of all governments for going all-out to suffocate and otherwise harm 83 million Iranians.

Biden regime hardliners follow the same destructive agenda.

Their deceptive rhetoric is meaningless. “We have not seen anything (positive) happen,” Rouhani stressed.

“Sanctions and pressure are still in place.” No evidence suggests an intention to lift them — other than perhaps a few meaningless gestures likely to be reversed for invented reasons.

Britain and EU bloc countries operate as virtual US colonies, obeying their imperial master in Washington.

After Trump illegally abandoned the  JCPOA three years ago next month, so did signatories to the landmark agreement Britain, France and Germany while pretending otherwise.

The US-dominated West can never be trusted.

Even if the Biden regime returned to JCPOA compliance and lifted illegally imposed sanctions on Iran, chances are a pretext would be invented to pull out again and reimpose sanctions — by Biden’s geopolitical team or a successor.

That’s how the scourge of US imperial operates. The same goes for its Western lackeys.

Hoping that they’ll change their wicked ways is like waiting for Godot.

China, Russia, Iran, and other nations free from US control have only one viable option.

Unite and break from the West. Diplomatic outreach to their ruling regimes assures betrayal every time.

Unity among sovereign independent nations strengthens them while weakening US imperial hostility against them.

The landmark 25-year Sino/Iranian strategic partnership is a major step in the right direction — a model for other nations free from US control to follow.
