US Big Lies About Russia’s Nord Stream 2 Gas Pipeline
by Stephen Lendman
Biden regime and congressional dark forces continue going all-out to block what’s on track for completion.
Germany and other European countries greatly value low-cost Russian natural gas over more expensive US LNG.
Nord Stream 2 will supply 55 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Europe when the pipeline is completed and becomes operational.
From beneath the Baltic Sea, it runs through economic zones of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
It’ll greatly enhance European energy security, not undermine it as US dark forces claim.
According to Gazprom Export head Elena Burmistrova, European consumers will save at least 7.9 billion euros in annual energy costs over 30% more expensive US LNG.
Dominant Russophobes in Washington want US firms replacing Moscow as Europe’s main energy suppliers, despite an ocean separating both continents, making it advantageous for EU countries to rely heavily on Russia for its low-cost natural gas.
US sanctions slowed but won’t block the project’s completion.
Nor will diabolical scheming by Biden regime interventionist Blinken.
Fooling no one in late March, he recited a litany of bald-faced Big Lies, saying:
“The pipeline divides Europe (sic).
“It exposes Ukraine and Central Europe to Russian manipulation and coercion sic), and it goes against Europe’s own stated energy security goals (sic).”
The Biden regime “has been very clear for a long time…that Nord Stream 2 is a bad idea (sic).”
“I reiterated that view directly to (German) Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, and I also made clear that firms engaged in pipeline construction risk US sanctions.”
The Biden regime “reiterates its warning that any entity involved in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline risks US sanctions and should immediately abandon work on the pipeline.”
Last month, the State Department said it’s “committed to fully implementing sanctions” as called for by the Protecting Europe’s Energy Security Act of 2019 (PEESA).
It’s a provision of the FY 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The statement added that the Biden regime “call(s) on Russia to cease using its energy resources for coercive purposes (sic).”
“Russia uses its energy export pipelines to create national and regional dependencies on Russian energy supplies, leveraging these dependencies to expand its political, economic, and military influence (sic), weaken European security (sic), and undermine US national security and foreign policy interests (sic).”
“These pipelines also reduce European energy diversification (sic), and hence weaken European energy security (sic).”
Plentiful, low-cost Russian natural gas greatly enhances European energy security, not the other way around, as the State Department falsely claimed.
As part of US war on Russia by other means — that risks turning hot by Russophobes pushing things too far — the State Department added the following:
In accordance with PEESA, Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will report to Congress on “vessels that engage in (Nord Sream 2 and TurkStream) pipe-laying” — for purposes of imposing illegal sanctions.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz earlier falsely claimed that “(i)f the US fails to halt Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, we will have vastly strengthened Putin’s hands at the expense of the rest of the free world (sic), adding:
“It would generate billions of dollars that could be used to fuel Russian aggression (sic).”
“And at the same time, it would hurt all of Europe by making Western Europe more dependent on Russian energy (sic), more subject to economic coercion (sic), and more subject to economic blackmail (sic).”
As long as Berlin wants unrestricted access to plentiful, cheap Russian natural gas, its ruling authorities will fully support completion of Nord Stream 2.
That’s where things now stand.
Efforts by US dark forces to block completion of the project failed — barring a scheme to damage or destroy the pipeline.
Given how diabolical US dark forces operate at home and abroad, anything ahead is possible — including unthinkable global war by accident or intent.
