Zelensky’s Proposed Summit with Putin

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Weeks after the Obama/Biden regime replaced democracy in Ukraine with Nazi-infested fascist tyranny, its US-installed and controlled regime launched what became forever war on the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk Republics in Donbass.

Conflict resolution is off the table because dominant US hardliners reject it, wanting a permanent state of war along Russia’s border in Europe’s heartland.

In March, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said Moscow “know(s) nothing about a (new) peace plan” for Donbass.

Zelensky aide Andrey Yermack dubiously claimed that Ukraine is agreeable to a proposed Franco/German plan “match(ing) the spirit of the Minsk (conflict resolution) Accords.”

At the time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “(w)e are following growing tensions along the line of contact with profound concern,” adding:

“We take note of more shelling of the Donbass territory by the Ukrainian armed forces or various units that Ukraine has close to the line of contact.”

“We take note of the Ukrainian military servicemen entering those zones where they should not be after the end of the disengagement.”

Russia’s Contact Group envoy Boris Gryzlov said Kiev breached agreed on security guarantees by provoking escalated conflict with Donbass.

At the Security Council, Russia’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia accused Germany and France of supporting Ukraine’s aggression on Donbass, adding:

“Those who only back one side in the domestic Ukrainian conflict and, in spite of the facts, play along with its sickly fantasies about ‘Russian aggression,’ cannot call themselves mediators.”

“You are more like accomplices in the crimes committed by Kiev against the Donbass people.”

Last week in an address that dubiously urged restoration of peace in Donbass while he’s waging preemptive war, Zelensky called for meeting with Vladimir Putin “anywhere” in the war zone.

Putin responded to his bluff, saying  he’s willing to meet with Zelensky “at any convenient time in Moscow” — provided he first meets with heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic in Donbass to discuss conflict resolution.

Interviewed by the Financial Times (FT) after Russia completed its scheduled military exercises near Ukraine’s border and began returning troops to their bases, Zelensky urged a revamp of the Minsk Accords for conflict resolution — what he breached straightaway in office on orders from Biden regime hardliners, adding:

“I’m now participating in the process that was designed before my time (sic).”

“The Minsk process should be more flexible in this situation (sic).”

“It should serve the purposes of today not of the past (sic).”

“There is a persistent threat because we are having a war, especially in the Donbas area, and the Russian army, we all know it, is a very powerful force (sic).”

“So we have it continuously at our borders (sic).”

“And this particular case is a case of psychological pressure (sic).”

“We are ready here for some unpleasant surprises (sic).”

“We’ll try to avoid them (sic).”

“Our military is very strong (sic), and we are prepared to deter any kind of threat of aggression (sic).”

Fact: Russia prioritizes peace and stability, not war in Donbass or anywhere else.

Fact: The same policy applies to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics in Donbass.

Fact: Democratically governed, they broke away from Kiev, refusing to accept the scourge of US-controlled fascist rule.

Fact: Ukraine’s only cross-border threats are invented, not real.

Fact: Serving US imperial interests, it’s the aggressor.

Fact: Comprised of involuntary conscripts, Ukraine’s military is weak.

Fact: Militarily superior Russia could smash its forces in a few days if provoked by cross-border aggression.

Fact: The FT is like US establishment media, featuring state-approved propaganda, journalism as it should be long ago abandoned.

Fact: If Zelensky was serious about conflict resolution, he’d halt daily cross-border shelling.

Fact: He’d order Ukrainian forces back to their bases — away from the contact line with Donbass.

Kiev shelling continues daily — showing Zelensky supports US forever war along Russia’s borders.

On Monday, the Donetsk News Agency reported the following:

“(T)he DPR mission to the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) said:

“Over the past 24 hours, the number of registered violations was five, the number of rounds fired – 26.”

“Zaitsevo, Shakhta Gagarina, Zheleznaya Balka, Vesyoloye, Sakhanka were targeted with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, grenade launchers and small arms.”

“All the attempts to reinstall the ceasefire through the coordination mechanism failed as Ukrainian ignored the requests.”

Serving as a pro-Western puppet, Zelensky remarks are consistently hollow.

Nothing he says can be taken at face value.

The same goes for the FT.
