Russian Foreign Ministry on Open Skies, Crimea, the US, and Occupied Palestine
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Along with unilaterally walking away from other treaties and agreements in breach of international law, the Trump regime abandoned Open Skies — based on Bid Lies.
Effective January 1, 2002, 34 European states, the US, and Russia adopted the Open Skies Treaty (OST), other nations welcomed to join.
After threatening to withdraw from the OST earlier, Trump abandoned the treaty, falsely saying:
“Russia didn’t adhere to the treaty (sic), so until they adhere we will pull out…”
In stark contrast to US breaches of its international law obligations repeatedly, Russia is in full compliance with international treaties, agreements and the rule of law.
Last week, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (MZ below) said the following:
“At the end of April, Russia sent its position paper to the States Parties to the Open Skies Treaty (TOS).”
“Its content was also reflected in the Russian delegation’s report to the Open Skies Consultative Commission (OSCC) on April 26, 2021, available on the Russian Foreign Ministry website.”
The US and complicit imperial partners falsely blame Russia for their TOS breaches.
MZ: “We continue to have a number of concerns regarding US NATO allies, as well as” breaches of their obligations by US colonized Ukraine and Georgia.
“We voiced our serious concerns to the US prior to its withdrawal from the treaty.”
“However, those were never taken into account or commented on. This has already become a miserable tradition.”
“We are ready to address all mutual concerns, but this discussion can only happen after the US announces its decision to return to the Treaty.”
Time to save TOS “is running out.”
Biden regime hardliners exceed the worst of their predecessors on all things Russia and other key international issues.
They may be spoiling for greater US aggression than already on one or more invented enemies.
The Republic of Crimea is sovereign Russian territory.
Yet on May 11 — in cahoots with Biden regime hardliners — EU bloc countries “escalat(ed) (hostile) relations with Russia, despite… assurances (otherwise) by (its foreign policy chief) Josep Borrell,” MZ explained, adding:
“(T)he Council of Europe (unacceptably) approved (US colonized) Ukraine’s draft decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the human rights situation in Crimea (sic).”
It includes “false statements and absurd accusations against Russia” — likely based on Biden regime supplied Russophobic talking points.
MZ notably slammed Germany for its complicity in inventing fabricated accusations against Russia.
“(I)s another (made-in-the-USA and EU) crisis” brewing, MZ asked?
“We regret to see that the Western majority is becoming more and more unapologetic in its use of Strasbourg institutions for containing Russia.”
“This policy is causing irreparable damage to the Council of Europe, undermining its authority and prospects as a pan-European organization.”
What’s going on is “an infringement on Russia’s territorial integrity” in flagrant breach of international law and multilateral relations.
Moscow rejects partnering by EU nations with Washington’s war on its sovereignty by other means.
MZ slammed phony Biden regime claims about nonexistent violations by Russia against journalists — a longstanding US/EU/Israeli policy, not how Moscow operates.
MZ: “(C)omplaints about the obstruction of journalistic work in Russia are a fiction and a lie” — part of Russophobic US/EU propaganda.
Unlike growing censorship in the West of what conflicts with the official falsified narrative, media freedom exists in Russia — including for foreign journalists in the country.
In stark contrast, the US Foreign Agents Registration Act is used as a weapon to undermine speech and media freedom in defiance of the US Constitution’s First Amendment.
MZ: Its unacceptable “requirements make the life of foreign and local media, which are recognized in America as foreign agents, unbearable.”
Separately, MZ slammed phony US claims that Russia hacked SolarWinds as “groundless” and “absurd.”
Nothing remotely connects Russia to hacking of the software firm or any other state-sponsored hacking — a US/Israeli specialty.
Even leading US information technology companies questioned dubious accusations against Russia.
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said his firm’s experts could not identify offenders of what happened to SolarWinds.
Many in the US won’t challenge its official falsified narrative, notably its establishment media, fearing “Big Brother’s revenge.”
“(A) vast gap (exists) between reality and (phony US) accusations,” said MZ.
Too few in the US “search (for hard) truth(s) (to debunk its official narrative) because of paralyzing fear of possible” retaliation by dark forces in Washington.
Commenting on Netanyahu regime aggression on Palestinians in Gaza and throughout the Occupied Territories, MZ said the following:
“We resolutely denounce attacks on civilians, regardless of their ethnic and religious affiliation.”
“We also advocate unconditional respect for the status quo of holy sites, as well as the immediate and complete cessation of all settlement activity on occupied Palestinian territories under numerous UN General Assembly and UN Security Council resolutions.”
Cooperatively with other nations and organizations against preemptive wars, Russia calls for observance of relevant Security Council resolutions on all things Israel and Occupied Palestine.
Along with supporting Palestinian statehood, Russia supports the right of all people to live free from the threat of preemptive wars against them.
Russia maintains good relations with Israel.
While supporting the rule of law and Palestinian rights, it tries to avoid criticizing its government.
