Escalated Israeli War on Palestinians

Escalated Israeli War on Palestinians

by Stephen Lendman ( – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Israeli terror-bombing and shelling of Gazan residential areas ceased temporarily — to be resumed at its discretion following whatever phony pretexts it invents.

Preemptive wars flagrantly breach the UN Charter, Nuremberg Principles and other core international law.

It’s ongoing daily by Israeli forces against Palestinians throughout the Occupied Territories — accountability never forthcoming.

Israeli police intend mass-arresting Israeli Arab citizens for the “crime” of supporting terrorized Palestinians throughout the Occupied Territories.

So-called operation law and order is all-about wanting dissent muzzled, Israeli critics punished for supporting the rule of law and opposing Netanyahu regime state terror.

In the past two weeks, over 1,500 Palestinians and Arab Israeli citizens were arrested extrajudicially.

Held for police state prosecution and rubber-stamp convictions, countless numbers more are being lawlessly hunted down, rounded up, detained, harshly mistreated — to be convicted on bogus charges and imprisoned.

Besides wanting them silenced, the witch hunt also aims to terrorize and intimidate other Palestinians into not replicating their actions.

On Sunday, the Adalah Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel said the following in response to illegal Israeli police state actions:

Its legal teams “are representing detainees in Israeli courts, and are taking legal steps against the illegal actions of Israeli police forces – including attacking Palestinian worshippers, preventing emergency medical treatment, and hindering the freedom of expression and association, freedom of worship, freedom of movement, and freedom of the press,” adding:

“The Israeli police’s dispersal of legitimate protests with brutal force, violent invasions of houses of worship, denial of access to emergency medical treatment and assaults on paramedics and medical personnel, and denial of freedom of movement and worship – these are all illegal practices.”

“This is further evidence that Israel’s police forces view and relate to Palestinians in East Jerusalem and across the country as enemies.”

“All Israeli police personnel – from the highest command level and down to the violent officers now operating on the ground – must be held accountable for their actions, which violate both Israeli and international law.”

On Monday, Adalah’s general director Hassan Jabareen said Israel’s “massive arrest campaign…is a militarized war against Palestinian citizens of Israel that requires a rapid response from all Palestinian political movements, parties, and from the High Follow-up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel.”

“This is a war against (legitimate) Palestinian demonstrators, political activists, and minors, employing massive Israeli police forces to raid the homes of Palestinian citizens.”

“These raids are intended to intimidate and to exact revenge on Palestinian citizens of Israel – ‘to settle the score’ with Palestinians, in the Israeli police’s own words – for their political positions and activities.”

Separately last week, Adalah petitioned Israel’s Supreme Court to order removal of repressive checkpoints established by police at the entrance to East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

What’s ongoing illegally is blocking entry of non-residents, preventing neighborhood residents who leave for any reason from returning to their homes, while granting access to gangs of armed extremist settlers who notoriously terrorize Palestinians with impunity.

Scores of peaceful Palestinian demonstrators were already indicted, hundreds more sure to follow.

Despite no evidence of wrongdoing, they’re falsely charged with assaulting police, endangering Israeli citizens, and committing arson.

According to an eyewitness of Israeli police state brutality, peaceful Palestinian protesters were tear-gassed and beaten, including women and the elderly.

Anyone seen filming or otherwise documenting Israeli police state brutality risks similar mistreatment and arrest.

Israeli police and media reports indicated that raids on over 500 Palestinian homes are planned this week, countless arrests to be made.

On Monday, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported the following:

“Israeli police…overnight launched a wave of mass arrests against Palestinian citizens of Israel as part of violent crackdown on recent protests against Israel’s brutal settler-colonialism and apartheid regime.”

“Thousands of notorious Israeli border police officers and reserve brigades started a large-scale detention campaign to arrest over 500 young Palestinian citizens of Israel as part of what Israel dubbed as ‘Operation Law and Order’ to ‘settle accounts’ with the latter over their participation in protests against Israel’s colonial policies, including the forced displacements in Sheikh Jarrah, encroachments upon Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and settler mob violence.”

“As part of executing the campaign, the forces are carrying out violent arrests, kicking in doors and brutaliz(ing) and intimidat(ing) minors and families in the impoverished communities across Israel.”

Activist political analyst Yara Hawan condemned Israel’s “declared war against Palestinians who dare to resist its colonial project and demand freedom.”

She urged Palestinians and Israeli Arab citizens “not (to) remain silent.”

“Speak up & make it a priority for your solidarity campaign.”

Lawyers for Defending the Uprising Detainees said over 700 arrests were made since May 9, including many children — mistreated as brutally as adults.

What’s going on and escalating is Israeli war on Palestinians to terrorize them into submission and firm up control over their lives.

It’s also part of Netanyahu’s attempt to retain power by showing he’s a meaner, nastier persecutor of Palestinian rights than aspirants seeking to replace him as prime minister.

A Final Comment

According to the Jewish Virtual Library, “Biden has a decades-long record of support for Israel,” adding:

When visiting the Jewish state as vice president, he embraced Netanyahu advisor Uzi Arad, saying:

“Just remember that I am your best f..king friend here.”

Separately, he once told Netanyahu:

“Bibi, I don’t agree with a damn thing you say, but I love you.”

His regime is stacked with numerous pro-Israel hardliners who are disdainful of Palestinian rights and well-being.
