Back to Dirty Business as Usual on Israel/Palestine

Back to Dirty Business as Usual on Israel/Palestine

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Establishment media criticism of Israeli war on Gaza and brutality against Palestinian West Bank/East Jerusalem protesters may have been a short-lived shift from decades of one-sided Jewish state support by establishment media — especially by the pro-war/anti-peace NYT.

On May 27 and 28, the self-styled newspaper of record gave feature op-ed space to two unindicted Israeli war criminals — former senior Knesset member Tzipi Livni and militantly undiplomatic former Israeli New York consul general Danny Dayan.

Both should have been prosecuted and convicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes of war, against humanity and slow-motion genocide of Palestinians long ago.

Instead they’re free to commit more crimes and support other likeminded Israeli war criminals.

Claiming there’s a “solution” to decades of Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Livni ignored over half a century of no-peace/peace talks, failing every time initiated by design.

Apartheid Israel exists on stolen Palestinian land.

Yet their leaders are willing to settle for 22% of their historic homeland in return for freedom from suffocating occupation — what Israel and the US-dominated West deny them.

Livni is right saying an Israeli/Palestinian conflict resolution “solution of a Jewish state and an Arab state has actually existed for (nearly) 75 years.”

On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly passed Resolution 181, the Palestine Partition Plan.

It granted 56% of historic Palestine to Jews (with one-third of the population) and 42% to Palestinians, with Jerusalem designated an international city.

UN Res. 181 called for an Independent Arab state by October 1, 1948.

It called on “all governments and peoples to refrain from taking any action which might hamper or delay the carrying out of these recommendations.”

The Security Council was empowered with “necessary measures as provided for in the plan for its implementation.”

Israel’s 1947-48 war of aggression changed the dynamic on the ground — with full US/Western support for Israel at the expense of Palestinians.

After seizing control over historic Palestine entirely in 1967, chances for conflict resolution with Palestinians based on the rule of law no longer existed — resistance their only option.

Nothing else can work — reality throughout Jewish state existence because of its hegemonic aims, what Livni understands but failed to explain.

Claiming conflicts can only be resolved diplomatically ignored over half a century of peace talks that were dead before arrival.

Nor can what never worked before work ahead because dominant US/Israeli hardliner reject conflict resolution that’s equitable for both sides.

The Israeli/Palestinian peace process and “vision of two states for two people” is one of the greatest hoaxes of all time because the US and Israel always rejected the idea while rhetorically claiming otherwise.

If their ruling regimes genuinely sought this solution, it would have happened decades ago.

It never did and won’t ahead without sustained Palestinian intifada resistance because the US-dominated West and Israel don’t negotiate.

They demand. Their promises when made are consistently hollow.

Their ruling regimes can never be trusted. Their history shows they’re belligerently hostile to peace, equity and justice.

Livni and likeminded Israelis are part of the problem, not the solution.

She lied calling Hamas “a radical Islamic terror organization (sic) that is fighting not to establish a Palestinian state but against the existence of” Israel (sic).

Reality is world’s apart from her distorted worldview — like the vast majority of others in Israel, the US and West.

Hamas is Palestine’s legitimate government, not the Israeli created Palestinian Authority (PA) that instituted puppet rule to serve Jewish state interests at the expense of millions of Palestinians.

As Israel keeps illegally annexing historic Palestinian land and dispossessing its owners, the US-dominated West and most world community members look the other way.

Looking ahead, nothing remotely suggests a shift in US/Western policy toward peace, equity and justice for Palestinians — just continuation of one-sided support for Israel at their expense.

What Livni understands well, she failed to explain — falsely pretending that conflict resolution is possible according to the rule of law, what the US, West and Israel long ago abandoned.

Separately, in stressing Israel’s “right to exist” — claiming peace depends on it — Dayan failed to affirm the same right for illegally occupied Palestinians.

A racist hardline settler leader, Dayan formerly led the militantly hostile to Palestinian rights Yesha Council.

He and other members believe that historic Palestinian land belongs exclusively to Jews, wanting its indigenous owners forcefully dispossessed to make way for exclusive Jewish development and use.

Yet he NYT earlier called him “worldly and pragmatic (sic),” claiming “by living in the West Bank, (he’s protecting it as a) “shield…and (for) survival of Israel itself (sic)” – ignoring illegal settlements under international law.

Dayan’s solution to decades of illegal Israeli occupation and state terror against Palestinians is unrelated to what he called the Jewish state’s “legitimacy.”

No state on land stolen from others is “legitimate.”

Nor can their endless war by hot and other means be justified — what’s been ongoing by Israel against Palestinians for over 73 years without letup.

Dayan’s two-state solution is all about isolating Palestinians in separated bantustans on worthless scrubland — Israel controlling all valued parts of historic Palestine, including its borders, air space, and valued resources.

It’s a prescription for endless conflict.

Like other militant Zionists, Dayan falsely blamed Palestinians for Israeli aggression against them in 1947-48 and other Jewish state wars that followed.

Yet the Times gave him feature op-ed space to lie and mass-deceive readers, the same true for Livni.

As feared at the time, the broadsheet’s criticism of Israel earlier in May appears to have been short-lived.

Featuring rubbish by two Israeli extremists — what no respectable publications would touch — shows where it really stands on all things related to decades of oppressive occupation harshness, over half a century of no-peace/peace talks, and equitable self-determination for long-suffering Palestinians never achieved.
