Dismal Russian/Western Relations

Dismal Russian/Western Relations

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Britain and EU nations are virtual US colonies.

Taking orders from Washington on all things geopolitical, their ruling regimes salute and obey their higher US authority.

Compliance with the rule of law, good will, and pursuit of cooperative international relations worldwide were abandoned long ago by the belligerent US-dominated West.

On Monday, Sergey Lavrov addressed the dismal state of Russian relations with EU nations — for what their ruling regimes and Britain’s bear full responsibility in cahoots with hegemon USA.

Calling the situation “alarming,” Lavrov said virtual “trenches (exist) on the frontline” between East and West.

A “unifying agenda” is nonexistent.

“(M)echanisms for…cooperation and contact between Russia and the EU and NATO have been drained of all substance.”

A Cold War more corrosive and dangerous than long ago with Soviet Russia risks becoming hot.

Hostile US-dominated relations with Moscow existed long before the Obama/Biden regime transformed democratic Ukraine into a Nazi-infested fascist police state.

Even so, what Lavrov called an imperfect “multilevel, mutually beneficial architecture of cooperation” no longer exists.

In cahoots with dominant US hardliners, Brussels and Britain “shut Russia out.”

Multiple rounds of illegal US/UK/EU sanctions were imposed on Russia “arbitrar(ily).”

Instead of diplomatic dialogue, Moscow is falsely accused of all sorts of things it had nothing to do with.

The Kremlin and key officials are automatically pronounced guilty by accusation despite no evidence supporting phony claims.

Illegal Western interference in Russia’s internal affairs happens repeatedly.

Policies of their ruling regimes are “incompatible…with normal relations, let alone any prospect of neighborliness,” Lavrov stressed.

European subservience to hegemon USA “los(t) (their) independence or…sense of reality…to correctly evaluate new challenges and the best ways to respond to them to uphold their own…interests.”

A highly dangerous situation exists because of phony made-in-the-USA/EU-UK supported rubbish about “Moscow’s malicious actions” — that don’t exist.

Worst still is a reckless agenda by their ruling regimes “for military policies directed against” Russia.

If they’re dreaming all-out war in Europe again, they may get what risks mutually assured destruction (MAD).

Lavrov’s hope for things to reverse ahead is wishful thinking and foolhardy.

The only language dominant US/Western hardliners know is toughness.

The only way to deal with them effectively is by giving them a taste of their own toxic medicine — short of war assuring losers, not winners.

For over 100 years, US/Western relations toward Moscow have been hostile — except during the dismal neoliberal/pro-Western Boris Yeltsin years and when both nations somewhat allied to defeat the scourge of Nazi tyranny.

At the cost of millions of lost Russian lives, the Red Army largely did it on its own, the West at most operating as a junior partner.

Looking ahead, US-dominated Western relations toward Moscow are more likely to worsen than improve.

It’s because both right wings of the US war party target all nations free from their hegemonic grip for regime change.

That’s the cold, hard reality of US/Western hostility toward Moscow.

It’s highly unlikely to change as long as dominant hardliners run things in Washington and European capitals.

Acknowledging reality, Lavrov said “unfriendly” Western actions won’t go “unanswered…steps…underway” to be taken if necessary.

Russia’s retaliatory tit-for-tat response to hostile Western actions by sticking to the rule of law is admirable and worlds apart from how US-dominated Europe operates.

If East/West war erupts ahead — what’s unthinkable but possible — it’ll be made-in-the-USA like virtually all other major conflicts throughout the post-WW II period.
