US Ironclad Support for Israeli Aggression and Apartheid
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
The US and Israel partner in each other’s wars on invented enemies — both nations contemptuous of the rule of law and it shows.
Last month, US war secretary Austin affirmed that the Biden regime’s “commitment to Israel is enduring, and it is ironclad.”
When US officials say “Israel has the right to defend itself (sic),” it’s code language for supporting its aggression and state terror — notably against Palestinian men, women, children, infants, the elderly and infirm who seek freedom from occupation harshness.
On Thursday, interventionist Blinken’s spokesman Price said “(r)egardless of” who comprises Israeli ruling regimes, “our ironclad support…will remain” unchanged.
Asked about preventing Gazan cancer patients from receiving treatment outside the Strip, Price refused to condemn the policy, saying only the following:
“We encouraged (sic) all parties to work together to facilitate greater freedom of movement, including for humanitarian ends (sic).”
Longstanding one-sided US support for Israel excludes upholding the rights of Palestinians.
Throughout Jewish state history, dominant US hardliners never gave a hoot about them — nor about ordinary people everywhere.
Price defied reality by the following remarks:
He falsely claimed that the Biden regime is working “to ensure that both Israelis and Palestinians enjoy equal measures of security, of safety, of prosperity, and of dignity (sic).”
Fact: Both right wings of the US war party exclusively support Israel at the expense of long-suffering Occupied Palestinians.
Under 14 years of suffocating blockade, Gazans suffer most.
The US pays lip service alone to Palestinian rights and well-being —while doing nothing to support their liberating struggle.
Virtually ignored is how they’re mistreated like subhumans, forced to endure virtually every type indignity, degradation and crime against humanity with no end of it in prospect.
By failing to uphold international law, the US supports Israeli state terror, aggression, torture, arbitrary arrests, illegal imprisonments, denial of the right to life and liberty, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, and other abusive acts.
Former UN Special Human Rights Rapporteur for Occupied Palestine, Richard Falk, earlier said the following:
Israeli guilt “of the crime of apartheid in relation to the Palestine people should be taken with the utmost seriousness by all those who affirm human solidarity and care about making visible the long ordeal of a suffering and vulnerable people.”
For 73 years, the US never once held Israel accountable for its highest of high crimes — supporting them instead with billions of dollars in annual handouts, along with state-of-the-art weapons and technology.
Price falsely added that the Biden regime supports the humanitarian well-being of Palestinians (sic).”
He lied claiming “our goal…is a two-state solution…to bestow on the Palestinian people their legitimate aspirations for statehood, security, and dignity (sic).”
Over half a century of intermittent no-peace/peace process talks achieved delay alone for Israel to continue stealing historic Palestinian land unobstructed and challenged by the US and world community.
Despite promising US humanitarian aid for Gazans, not a dime’s worth of it arrived in the Strip so far.
Nor will any US aid go directly to Gaza where urgently needed as long as Hamas remains its legitimate government.
So-called Biden regime aid if forthcoming will go to the pro-Western/puppet Palestinian Authority to use as it pleases.
With full US support, millions of Palestinians remain oppressively subjugated under Israel’s oppressive boot.
Nothing is done by the US and West to end what’s in flagrant violation of core international law.
On June 3, the Al-Mezan human rights group explained the following:
“After banning all Palestinian access to Gaza’s sea space during its recent attack on the Strip, Israel continues to restrict access to the ‘fishing zone’ it enforces in Gaza’s territorial waters up to a maximal distance of six nautical miles off shore.”
“The fishing unions in Gaza have reported multiple incidents of fire by the Israeli navy toward fishermen and their boats even within the permitted zone.”
“The navy’s harassment of Palestinian fishermen puts their lives at risk and damages the boats and fishing equipment they use to make a living.”
“The fishing sector in Gaza was badly hit during Israel’s recent airstrikes…which targeted civilian buildings and infrastructure, causing damage to fishing boats and equipment.”
“Israel’s decision to ban access to Gaza’s sea space for two weeks exacerbated the harm to over 50,000 people whose livelihoods depend on the fishing sector.”
“The ongoing prohibition on exit of goods from Gaza since May 11 – which Israel continues to enforce today, two weeks into the ceasefire – further impairs the livelihoods of fishermen and suppliers in the Strip.”
“(F)ish prices in Gaza have plummeted as a result of Israel blocking their exit from the Strip to be marketed in the West Bank, and fish are being sold in Gaza at a loss.”
“Gaza’s fishing sector had already been undermined and harmed by years of Israel’s restrictions on access to the sea in Gaza, violent harassment by the Israeli navy, confiscation of fishing boats and equipment, and restrictions on access to necessary materials for fishing and repairing boats.”
During his Thursday press briefing, Price ignored the above Israeli abuses — and all others.
US claims about support for Palestinian rights throughout the Occupied Territories are belied by its failure to hold Israel accountable for endless apartheid state terror — punctuated by aggression on Gaza at its discretion.
