Biden Regime Hardliners Blocking Humanitarian Aid to Syrians
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Dominant US hardliners from both wings of its war party want long-suffering Syrians suffocated into submission to control by Washington.
On Thursday, Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev once again called for “an end to (US/Western) collective punishment against the Syrian people,” adding:
Moscow rejects reauthorization of the so-called “cross-border aid delivery mechanism” for humanitarian aid into Syria’s Idlib province that’s diverted to US-supported ISIS, al-Nusra, and likeminded jihadists for their exclusive use.
Because none of it goes to Syrians in need, Russia wants aid delivered to Damascus so its government can supply it equitably to its people.
Commenting on this issue, interventionist Blinken’s spokesman Price defied reality by calling “continu(ed) cross-border access (through) one crossing” controlled by US-supported jihadists “a humanitarian imperative (sic),” adding:
“Millions of (Syrian) lives are on the line.”
Since March 2011, hegemon USA, its imperial partners, and jihadist foot soldiers raped and destroyed Syria.
They massacred hundreds of thousands of its people, displaced millions, and wants them deprived of essentials to life if unwilling to accept US subjugation.
Alleged concern by Price for “beleaguered and food-insecure Syrian people” ignored the above reality.
Hegemon USA is dismissive toward the rights and welfare of ordinary people everywhere, including at home — wanting them subjugated and exploited, not served anywhere.
In 2014, Security Council members authorized delivery of humanitarian aid to Syrians through four cross-border locations.
Despite Sino/Russian opposition last July, the Security Council OK’d one cross-border location into jihadist-controlled Idlib province.
Authorization ends Saturday.
Days earlier, Russia’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia called continuation of the Biden regime-supported one border crossing “a non-starter,” adding:
US policy breaches what supplying humanitarian aid is all about, along with international law it breaches time and again unaccountably.
Separately, Sergey Lavrov slammed what he called trying to “blackmail” Russia to comply with unacceptable US/Western demands.
He stressed “the vital need to provide humanitarian assistance to all Syrians throughout the country without politicization, discrimination or preconditions” by coordinating it through Damascus.
US-dominated Western regimes oppose humanitarian aid for all Syrians in need — blocking what the ICRC and Syrian Arab Red Crescent try to deliver cross-border in parts of the country outside of jihadist-controlled Idlib.
On Tuesday, Nebenzia said Russia will present its own draft resolution to supply humanitarian aid, explaining:
“The time has come to phase out (the unacceptable) mechanism (and) replace it with humanitarian supplies that will be implemented in accordance with the principles outlined in UN General Assembly resolution 46/182,” adding:
“(W)e are aware of the need to meet the humanitarian needs of all Syrians.”
“We will present our draft resolution, which implies a six-month extension of the mechanism, while limiting the number of existing checkpoints to one at the Bab al-Hawa checkpoint on the Turkish border.”
Moscow wants additional cross-border entry points into the country established, as agreed to by Damascus in coordination with the UN.
Vladimir Putin earlier accused the US of “economically suffocating Syria” and its people.
Separately on Thursday, a joint Russian, Iranian, Turkish statement denounced Israeli terror-bombing strikes on Syrian targets in defiance of “international law, international humanitarian law, the sovereignty of Syria, and neighboring countries.”
Throughout most of the past decade, Israel partnered with US/Western aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic.
Its diabolical aim all about wanting the country’s sovereignty destroyed, along with aiming to partition it and isolate Iran regionally.
Longstanding US/Western/Israeli plans call for redrawing the Middle East map.
Their scheme is all about replacing independent governments with pro-Western puppet regimes, balkanizing Iraq, Syria, Iran and other regional countries for easier control — along with wanting their resources looted, their people subjugated and exploited.
Russia, China, Iran, and other nations free from US hegemonic control operate by higher standards.
They respect the sovereign rights of all countries as mandated by international law — what US/Western/Israeli regimes long ago abandoned.
