Putin Recognizes Independence of Donbass

A previous article discussed the issue, calling the move long overdue — ahead of Putin’s Feb. 21 decree.

In response to the Obama/Biden regime’s Feb. 2014 Maidan coup in Kiev — transforming Ukraine into a tyrannical US-controlled vassal state — referendum results in Donetsk and Lugansk overwhelmingly expressed support for self-determination.

The UN Charter’s Article I enshrines “the principle of equal rights and self-determination of (all) peoples” everywhere.

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) states the following:

“(A)ll peoples have the right of self-determination.” 

“By virtue of that right, they (may) freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.”

No nation may deny this right to people yearning to breathe free — what’s enshrined in international law that’s US constitutional law under its Supremacy Clause.

This fundamental right is also enshrined in other international laws, including:

The International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination

The Convention on the Rights of the Child

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide

The Declaration on Principles of International Law Concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation Among States

The Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples

The Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities

Self-determination is affirmed in international jurisprudence cases.

The US July 4, 1776 Declaration of Independence from Britain stated:

“(W)henever any Form of Government becomes destructive of (Life and Liberty), it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…” 

The above reflects the principle of self-determination as later defined.

Donetsk and Lugansk refused to accept fascist rule.

Choosing democracy over tyranny, they broke away from Ukraine to establish it — their legal right under international law. 

In accordance with the rule of law on Monday, Vladimir Putin signed an Executive Order that recognizes the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk as sovereign states.

In pursuit of peace and stability along the contact line between Donbass and Ukraine, he instructed Russia’s Defense Ministry to send peacekeepers to Donbass.

He’s also formally establishing diplomatic relations with the newly recognized republics.

Will hegemon USA and NATO vassal states call Russian peacekeepers in Donbass an invasion of Ukrainian territory?

The DPR and LPR are independent sovereign states.

Recognition by Russia attests to their legitimacy — as affirmed by the UN Charter and other international law.

Explaining his action, he said the following:

“I deem it necessary to make a decision that should have been made long ago — to immediately recognize the sovereignty and independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic.”

Together with DPR and LPR leaders Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik respectively, he called on US-controlled Ukraine to “immediately stop hostilities” against the newly recognized republics, warning:

“(O)herwise, all responsibility for  continuation of bloodshed will be entirely on the conscience of the (US-controlled) regime ruling Ukraine.”

Putin and Donbass leaders signed what also affirms Russian friendship, cooperation and assistance to Donbass.

Before issuing his decree, Putin presided over a Russian Security Council emergency session at which he stressed that negotiations with the US-dominated West on the Donbass issue reached a dead end.

Speakers of Russia’s lower house State Duma and upper house Federation Council — Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matviyenko respectively — urged Putin to recognize Donbass independence.

Russian lawmakers symbolically voted for the move overwhelmingly.

What should have happened years ago is now reality.

Putin’s action also calls for aiding Donbass politically, economically and militarily.

Russian armed forces will help restore and preserve peace in the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk.

On Monday, the Donetsk New Agency reported the following:

Putin’s decree “include(s) cooperation (with Donbass) in the sphere of defense.”

“DPR residents celebrate(d) the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize both Donbass Republics as independent states, launching fireworks in the center of Donetsk.”

“Many people t(ook) to the streets to congratulate each other, despite the late hour.” 

“Some of them (were) crying, releasing tension after Putin’s long televised speech preceding recognition.”

Ahead of signing his executive order on Monday, Putin informed French President Macron and German Chancellor Sholz of his decision and reasons behind it.

Despite agreeing to Minsk I and II conflict resolution agreements — in September 2014 and February 2015 respectively — Kiev breached them before the ink dried — on orders from its higher power in Washington.

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said it long ago became clear that Kiev never intended to comply with Minsk — in favor of forever conflict over resolution.

It’s because hegemon USA wants a permanent state of war along Russia’s border.

While Moscow is willing to engage with the US diplomatically, there’s no ambiguity about where both right wings of its war party stand on Russia and other nations free from their control.

Longstanding US policy calls for transforming them into subservient vassal states, serving its interests over their own.

Because of its territorial size, vast resources and military power, Washington aims to balkanize Russia for easier control and exploitation.

Tuesday on orders from the Biden regime, OSCE chairman/Polish foreign minister Zbigniew Rau and complicit organization Russophobes called on Putin to “immediately rescind his decision” on Donbass independence.

Claiming that his action “breach(ed) international law” was a bald-faced Big Lie.

While Putin’s decree stopped short of expressing support for the DPR and LPR to join Russia as republics if it’s the will of their people, it’s the next logical step as international law allows.

A Final Comment

Treaties agreed to by Moscow with Donetsk and Lugansk permit Russia’s military to “build, use and improve military infrastructure, bases and other objects on their territory.”

DPR and LPR leadership asked Moscow to send peacekeepers to their territories. 

Agreements include a “common defense against external aggression and the right to use each other’s military infrastructure,” RT reported.

Recognizing the independence of both republics, Putin noted that the move was “long overdue.”
